Well I just had to respond to the fabulous effort by TorqueX86 in his G5 case from Insanely Mac! Here are the first 2 shots of how far I have got, the back panel is still to be sorted, but you are looking at a full size ATX Asus P5E3 Premium Wireless @ n motherboard in a Mac Pro case!! How did I get it in you ask yourself and keep the shelf and HDD's in tact? I will reveal all at the weekend when I have a little more time. The sockets still need some work at the back but this time all the original Apple positions will hopefully be used. The front panel/power button is 100% functional and all original Mac Pro fans have been used but are controlled by the motherboard and revolve very slowly and are fully adjustable from the bios on this motherboard. It is virtually silent but is Quad powered at 3.6 GHz 1333 corsair DDR3 and has dual Nvidia 9800 GTX's!    I am so enjoying the power, I don't want to have to take it apart again to wire up the back sockets! |

Just saw this over on insanely! WOW!!!! One thing i noticed is the color of your plastic... looks lighter then mine... almost snow grey... Looks very very good! Wish i could start mine... would love to see more photos...

Aqua, Looks fantastic! Is this addition to the Hack family going to stay air cooled? Or is a "factory" LCS in the works  The Evo looks right at home and your perfect cable management is awe inspring! Can't wait to see the ATX fit mod pics! Cheers, Nik |

Simply awesome! Congrats on such a great looking machine... I really should get around to doing my G5 case mod but never have the time free... Would love to see some more pics on the inner workings / the build itself? I`m sure you`re very busy but if you do get the time it would be great to see them.

Thanks for all your great encouraging comments guys, I have really enjoyed doing this one, but still some work left to do! I have not posted so much lately due to pressure at work, but also most free time has been spend working on this too. The final hurdle is the back panel, but this time I am determined to get it right!!!
I will post some more footage when I am back home at the weekend.

Aquamac this is really good I tell you, Just how did the Mobo fit in there ATX Asus P5E3. di you have to cut the base of the case hk hk hk hk jokes. All in all this is good, I like it.
You have given me reason not to sell my Mod.

Shaanky98 you gotta keep your mod! It really is looking ace! have you used your PSU (mock-up) cover form your water cooled MP or were you able to make another one??? I was offered a MP PSU (fualty) for £50! that still seems a little high for something that has no value to them.... Your making me want a second job! LOL i should set up a 'Joe's HACK PRO MK2 fund raiser' account and have to world donate me my £700. :-P

Here are a few more pics: This one shows how the base was done - A dremel is your friend!   The back plug on the Hiper power supply:   The top of the motherboard up against the shelf. There was still a bit of work to do here as at this point the FW plug could not quite fit. A little bit of dremeling though and I got that up and running. I also recon the Apple Sata plugs will just go in with a bit of fiddling! Here is a pic of the board:  |

Thats class! so you didnt have to cut through the top shelf? smooth.... you must of had to make a few custom size mobo mounts huh... looks like the bottom mobo mounts must be on raised part of the case (where they bottom is attached to the back) I wonder if you'll be able to fit hard drives in Bay 2-4 you'll need some right-angle SATA connections and the same for power.. looks ace!!!
What Hiper did you go for? nice PSU's huh... I think i might cut through the top shelf so the GFX power cables arent so stretched..

Hi Joe, I now have HDD's in 2 & 3 bays. No problem, the HDD's stop 10 mm in front of the sata plug mounts. At the moment I just used the std sata cables, but I am pretty sure that the original loom will work too, as most of the moulding is on the front with only a little hanging out the back. This is the Hiper I went for. Very nice PS & not overpriced either! |
