Hey bb, I like the way you hid the cd drives on your G5 case mod: Is that mesh easy to bend? - looks smart!

Hi aqua, Fine that you appreciate my bending, thanks. With a lot of practice, it is easy. The problem is to manage to bend it correctly, I mean precisely like you want it with the minimum of attempts, because it is very flexible but fragile. You can see the results of too many manipulations on the right side of the bottom of the case. The left side is OK : Aqua how did you make appear the picture from the other site? I have tried a lot of time and manners without any succes. Would like to show all the pictures here. Thank you. Edit : it is so easy when yo know how. ;D ;D . Thanks aqua.

Thanks a lot aqua, will try it tomorow. Got to work tonight.
edit : Had a try this morning and it works . I have edited the previous posts with pictures. Got to have some sleep now . Tomorrow I am three days home. Will take some pictures of the work in progress how to start bending the mesh panel with the hands and finishing with a rubber hamer. Have some examples of attempts with small pieces of mesh before doing it with a larger piece.

Because of the way I made the latest Mobo tray, I can reduce the depth of the bottom case. I do not need to uplift the case as before, just use a mesh panel as lower bottom for the PSU, the pump and rad being transfered into the Mac Pro case.

Pictures of the G5 rad : So, I want to cover the space of the optical devices and the PSU. First measure the panel 1 2 then bend with the hands 3 4 then use the hammer with something soft under but firm to absorb the shock 5 6 the panel is well bended 7 then cutting the over part from the side 8 9 see how flexible is the mesh panel, i made with the hands two different angles of bending to show it 10 the protective plastique is kept until the job is finished to avoid any marks on the panel 11 cutting the under part which will be cover by the side part after bending it. It is better not to cut the part in one time, but small pieces at a time until the right dimension comes under and is well covered . The bending is made with the hands. 12 13 14

pictures of small works as preparation are following... This is a very small cover I made to put over te start-up button, but did not use finally: This is a cover for an external HDD case; my son found the electric blue cover not so nice, have to make new front and back plate :

The two covers are ready for the Mac pro housing of the LCS. Still to paint them to hide the damages on the mesh panel. I thought first to let the HDD's tray apparent but the space in between was too small. So I covered the face of the tray also; I bough only one because it is so expensive, 40 euro plus ten euro for customs taxes. I will try to make three others myself.

Was on insanelymac, and had talks with amatheboy and HacOSXuser
QUOTE(HacOSXuser @ Jun 6 2008, 10:10 PM) the only thing i dont like is how the G4 door(obv) doesnt cover the entire opening. leaving the top shelf and the corners visible. take the original G5 door. cut a hole in it the size of the G4 door. put them toogether. and make it motorize out. that. would be an amazing mod.
QUOTE(amantheboy) you know what would be sick making the G5 door opening the G4 door but motorize so when you pull the latch it will come down on its own now that would be nice.
The result is :
I have made a new acrylic mobo tray which cover the entire opening, the top shelf is covered by two pieces of mesh panel. When the mobo tray is closed, it shows a 3D apple logo. I have cut an acrylic door as wide as the original G5 door. I have attach them together. The apple logo seems then to float between the two panels. As I have been playing around with mesh panel, I will cut a panel with the shape of the apple logo centered onto the acrylic door leaving the floating apple visible, and covering with mesh panel the outer sides, up, down, left and right. why ? In fact to hide the holes made to attach the outside acrylic door to the frame used to fixe the original G5 door with the latch. Still working on, pictures will follow.
Next step is motorizing; have already figure out what to use and how...

Latest update, from post 40 forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=93600&st=20&start=20This are views of the new mobo tray closed with the apple logo attached. Still to finalize . I have made a track in the shape of the apple to dig the logo onto the panel and it is attached with a simple screw. Some pictures with the external acrylic panel onto the case, not yet attached to the mobo tray Here you can see the original apple frame used to lock the door with the latch. This frame is attached to the mobo tray by using four cpu's standups shorted and screwed. It is not obvious on these picts, but the frame is cut at the bottom part, when I realize that some room was necessary for the opening movement of the door. So I will cut the door in two parts, the down one removable and the upper the moving door. . Before cutting the mesh panel (still to order) to cover the outer of the acrylic panel (to hide the frame and standups), I will make a paper one with an opening centered with the logo , just to visualize how wide can be this opening. Pictures will follow. View on the mobo tray with standups, apple logo onto the mobo tray and frame to attach the external acrylic door I took out the cables for the two removed suspended hdd's. Remains the ones for the optical drive. The power will be supplied by the original thinner black cable on the right , which now supplies for the yellow cable from the upper fans. The two fans will be connected directly to the mobo, still have to finish the soldering for the three wires plug. The bigger original black powers the two upper hdd's via two self made 4 pins plugs. By lowering the bottom plate, I will have enough room for the Power Supply Unit. Next update, first on aqua-mac.com, pictures are coming...

Look like it was glass etched. Edit* Awe, I didn't see all the pictures before. That looks really nice man. Now I can wait to get my case, I have my eye on 2 atm. I want to do mine and the wifes case. Dumb question though, I had saw a case on Insanelymac The case look Chrome, do you know how he did this?
