Hi Kenji,

Yes I am modding this myself and I am typing this from the hackintosh now. I have a G5 case from fleabay to transfer the parts into, (they are in a PC case at the mo) but I am waiting for some parts to arrive that I have ordered. So latter part of the Christmas hols and I will move forward on this. I have to say, the hardware rocks, it's really fast.

This board will accept a Quad core (when the price drops) for some real action! ;D

How did you get the cpu to register as 4GHz? I thought the max those cpu's were was 2.9GHz and that is for the Core 2 Duo Extreme Quad.

Hi JJ,

I don't know why it is showing 4 Gigs. This is the figure that it has shown since the instalation was configured. Also this is with various kernels, currently running the latest Semthex kernel which seems to boot in record time, once the dos stuff is out the way.

Here are the first pics of my Hackintosh, these are not the final configuration but are work in progress, however, the planning & "dirty" work has been done:






The power supply will move & the radiator below is destined to sit up front with 2 x 120 mm fans!




PS. All front ports are working, they were a complete b*****d to sort, especially the firewire!

Thanks for compliments guys, I'm really pleased, just sussed out how to get Airport working as well by editing the IO80211Family.kext file. If you are interested Ritalin, Show package contents/Plugins then in my case as I had a Broadcom Linksys card open Apple AirportBrcm4311.kext show package contents/Contents then open info .plist with text editor and enter your device id of your PCI card over one of those already in there, for example:

My device id is 4318, so I overwrote 4319 with this info. Did all this in root, then repaired permissions just to be on the safe side, rebooted and open Network properties, Bang - New port detected, you know what to do from there!

If you need/want to do this it works a treat.

Is the rear plate something you made or had custom built? Or is it a stock replacement part fitted to spec?

By the way, the original winmac running OSX had given me thought to building one of my own(in the distant future). I'm pretty sure that somewhere on this forum there was a download or tutorial on how to go about this, but now I can't find it. Maybe I'm just want to pretend it was there. Not sure.

Well, thanks guys for all the encouragement! I'm looking forward to getting that Radiator in as well & then really tidying all the wiring up.

OK, not the cheapest solution, but the most sensible one.

This enabled me to utilise the already existing standoffs in the G5 case. The mounting board fixed to these, then in turn, the Gigabyte board screwed to the mounting board. One of the big benifits to this solution is the 15 mm recess under the mounting board to run all your top to bottom cable behind, keeping them out of sight. It also means that the motherboard can be removed easily, (just like any PC). I finished this by fixing at the back with some pop rivets, but I may swap these out for Allen headed socket screws some time.

On another note, I sussed out (after a bit of trial & error) how to fix the way the graphics card is displayed in System Profiler. I was getting Unknown Nvidia card displayed (although everything worked fine) when using the Natit kext, as this particuler card was not specifically included. Well a simple edit in Natit has now got my card correctly shown.



I will start to look at the 79 GTX now!

Thanks for the airport info! Do you know of any USB wifi dongles this might work on as I don't wana tie up a PCI slot. I will search for myself, but thought I would ask first.

Love that DVD drive, what a neat idea, has bit of a i-mac feel about it! Motherboard fits a treat too, looks like plenty of room at the top.
Looks like sata is working too. Did you manage to install on IDE. My board installed fine if you connect the DVD drive to the Sata bus with a drive converter, I have pached IDE now so it works but left the Dvd drive on the sata bus only so I didn't have to use a wide ribbobn cable. I take it you have returned from the wilds of the Lake District now!

On the subject of Wifi dongles, I have tried this one and it works:

I have found with these dongles that they sometimes need to be unplugged/replugged at boot time to get internet working. Having said that it seemed pretty fast!

Thanks aqua-mac, but actually I was referring to how to make the OS X software run on a PC motherboard. As I have no experience in programming, I'm wondering if it's even plausible for me to even attempt this.
