Those kexts from post 29 are labeled for 10.5.5 so they would never work. You need to reinstall the 10.5.6 kexts from here. Then double click this and leave it to run before you reboot. It can take up to 5 mins before it repairs your kext permissions. You cannot use disk utility. If you did not install DSDT.aml then you don't have it. That will take you back to 10.5.6. You do not need to install any more Apple drivers period! After you have done that and rebooted, download the NVDarwin installer package and run it and reboot. If this does not work then there is something wrong with some other part of your install. Let me know how you get on.

Great,
That's more like it, welcome to OSX 86. If you get a chance and have another HDD, use Superduper to make a clone of your drive and re-install Chameleon bootloader to the new drive. I always like a clone drive to fall back on especially when experimenting with updates!!

Aquamac -
thank you so much for the non-demeaning way you answer questions... that's refreshing in this world!
Not to take advantage of that, but I can't seem to figure something out.
I have had my card working previously with QE/CI by using your method. I initially used the iAtkos installer with PC EFI v9 and the Voodoo 2.0 kernel. I have an i7 920 with a PNY 9800 GT on a Gigabyte EX58-UD3R MoBo.
I recently updated both my kernel (to 9.6.3) and Chameleon (to 2.0 RC1). I went into the Extra folder and changed the new boot.plist file to the old GFI strings. That didn't do anything. So, I downloaded your 10.5.6 Leopard Std nVidia drivers and tried again. Now, my card is showing up in my SysPro as a 9800 GT, but QE isn't enabled. My screen saver keeps hanging, etc.
Here is the boot.plist file
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd"> <plist version="1.0"> <dict> <key>Graphics Mode</key> <string>1680x1050x32@60Hz</string> <key>Kernel</key> <string>mach_kernel</string> <key>Kernel Flags</key> <string>busratio=20</string> <key>GUI</key> <string>n</string> <key>Default Partition</key> <string>hd(0,2)</string> <key>Timeout</key> <string>5</string> <key>device-properties</key> <string>cd0300000100000001000000c10300001500000002010c00d041030a010000000101060000030101060000007fff040014000000400032002c006e0061006d00650000001100000073656e736f722d706172656e74220000005600520041004d002c0074006f00740061006c00730069007a0065000000080000000000004036000000400032002c00680077006300740072006c002d0070006100720061006d0073002d00760065007200730069006f006e00000008000000000000021c0000006400650076006900630065005f0074007900700065000000100000004e5644412c4765466f7263650e0000006e0061006d00650000000f0000004e5644412c506172656e7422000000400030002c006400650076006900630065005f00740079007000650000000b000000646973706c6179100000006d006f00640065006c0000001a0000004e5649444941204765466f726365203938303020475422000000400031002c006400650076006900630065005f00740079007000650000000b000000646973706c617912000000400032002c007200650067000000080000000000000222000000400032002c006400650076006900630065005f0074007900700065000000120000004e5644412c6770752d64696f646520000000400032002c0063006f006d00700061007400690062006c0065000000160000004e5644412c73656e736f722d706172656e7422000000400032002c002300730069007a0065002d00630065006c006c0073000000080000000000000020000000400031002c0063006f006d00700061007400690062006c00650000000e0000004e5644412c4e564d616314000000400030002c006e0061006d0065000000120000004e5644412c446973706c61792d413a000000400032002c0068007700730065006e0073006f0072002d0070006100720061006d0073002d00760065007200730069006f006e000000080000000000000226000000400032002c0023006100640072006500730073002d00630065006c006c0073000000080000000000000114000000400031002c006e0061006d0065000000120000004e5644412c446973706c61792d4220000000400030002c0063006f006d00700061007400690062006c00650000000e0000004e5644412c4e564d61631e00000072006f006d002d007200650076006900730069006f006e000000090000003331373261100000004e00560043004100500000001800000004000000000003000c00000000000007000000000e0000004e00560050004d0000002000000001000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000</string> </dict> </plist>

Hi Jessie and welcome to these forums. I cannot think of a reason immediately why your card has stopped working. GFX strings are obviously working otherwise your card would show up only as display, but yours is showing up correctly (- QE & CI). My 9800 GTX's are fine with 10.5.6, I am using Chameleon 2 and GFX Strings too. I am attaching my kernel. It is 10.5.6 vanilla but the 10.5.5 voodoo one might be worth a try. If you want I can edit it to work as 10.5.6 so you can use 10.5.6 System.kext but if you use the voodoo you will need the Seatbelt.kext from 10.5.5 otherwise you will get KP's when you open DMG files. When your system was working was it on the X58 motherboard - there is not some bios setting that has been changed?? Are you sure that you do not have any injectors in your extensions folder? Check you have not left one in from any experimenting you may have done. Also try leaving your strings in position but install NVDarwin from here. If that does not give you QE & CI, then maybe you need to replace your OpenGL.framework with the std 10.5.6 one (just incase yours is a modded one. Give me a shout and I can put this up.

None of that worked.
I'd really like to stick with the 9.6.3 vanilla kernel if at all possible. It seems to work well with the i7's. My card stopped working properly when I went from 9.5.0 voodoo to 9.6.3 vanilla.
I downloaded and it gave me an error when I booted saying it was installed improperly. I had also installed the 10.5.6 Std Leopard nVidia drivers that you had posted here. I got errors from those as well when OS X booted... I could click ok to proceed though.
I was using my x58 board when it was working, but it was with the voodoo kernel. I haven't changed anything in my bios either. Also, I have the appropriate seatbelt.kext and system.kext files (10.5.6 versions), as I am able to mount USB devices and dmg's just fine. CI/QE are the only things I am aware of that aren't working.
When I boot in verbose mode, I do see a note that "display family specific matching failed". But, as you can see, I have the info in my Sys Profiler. Weird.
Also, I took the QE framework package from another Mac Pro I have and copied it to this machine... no dice. Is that what you meant by using the 10.5.6 QE framework? That machine is running 10.5.6 (it's a REAL mac pro, not a hack).
Thanks again for your time.

You need to fix your kext permissions. Download this permissions repair and double click it. Also run repair permissions in disk utility then reboot and restart with the -f parameter.

Hello good ppl, aquamac I'm still in the assembling part of my 2nd hackintosh so I did a lot of reading trying to figure the best config - and I have seen your work - man you are a osx86 icon!
I myself bought an EVGA GTX 285 2GB OC board - but I still didn't get the parts
my colleague which is also in the Video editing industry got all psyched and wanted a similar i7 rig as I'm building but only with a cheaper GPU.
So after reading this thread I'm going to get him the 9800 GTX+ 512.
my question is: is it possible to use 9800 GTX+ 1024MB with your instructions?
does the brand name plays a roll?
the OS will be 10.5.7 (im going to try installing Full retail 10.5.6 +update if it will not work I'm going to try to install iAtkos 10.5.7)
Cheers!

Hi arkapro,
That sounds like a nice setup. 9800 1024 mb should not be a problem at all. Brand name makes no difference in my opinion as OSX will just read Nvidia. That EVGA 2 gig should be a monster!!!

Thanks for the quick replay! I'll go for it! YUP My 2nd HackPro will be: Mobo: Gigabyte GA-X58-UD5 \ Extreme i7 920 (D0 stepping) CPU OCZ 12GB RAM 1600Mhz EVGA GTX 285 2GB OC - I wanted to buy a PNY Quadro FX 4800 but it was mad expensive - and I didn't find support for OSX86. So I thought ill "compromise" for this little GTX 285 board I Just hope the GTX 285 will do the job (good OPENGL support for after effects + plugins etc) Also I want to install RAID - but that is for a different thread - so I created a new one: aquamac.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=hack1&thread=880

Hi arkapro, That sounds like a nice setup. 9800 1024 mb should not be a problem at all. Brand name makes no difference in my opinion as OSX will just read Nvidia. Well I installed 10.5.6 Retail + 10.5.7 Combo update. using digital dreamer's AMAZING script! www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=149505&st=0&p=1057767entry1057767I didn't install any drivers (NVinject, NVkush) because I read in this thread I only need to change the EFI strings using OSX86 Tools. So I ran OSX86 Tools >> Add EFI string >> GFX Strings >> Custom GeForce >> "nVidia GeForce 9800GT 1024MB" >> 1024 MB (1GB) >> DVI-I / VGA >> Import string to Boot Editor >> Apply Changes to com.apple.boot.plist I restarted, the resulution is good now (1600x1200) but now QE-CI support. Display:
Type: Display Bus: PCIe PCIe Lane Width: x16 VRAM (Total): 32 MB Vendor: NVIDIA (0x10de) Device ID: 0x0614 Revision ID: 0x00a2 Displays: Display: Resolution: 1024 x 768 Depth: 32-Bit Color Core Image: Software Main Display: Yes Mirror: Off Online: Yes Quartz Extreme: Not Supported
Here is the output of the Custom GFX string: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd"> <plist version="1.0"> <dict> <key>PciRoot(0x1)/Pci(0x3,0x0)/Pci(0x0,0x0)</key> <dict> <key>@0,compatible</key> <string>NVDA,NVMac</string> <key>@0,device_type</key> <string>display</string> <key>@0,name</key> <string>NVDA,Display-A</string> <key>@1,compatible</key> <string>NVDA,NVMac</string> <key>@1,device_type</key> <string>display</string> <key>@1,name</key> <string>NVDA,Display-B</string> <key>NVCAP</key> <data> BAAAAAAAAwAEAAAAAAAABwAAAAA= </data> <key>NVPM</key> <data> AQAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA== </data> <key>VRAM,totalsize</key> <string>0x40000000</string> <key>device_type</key> <string>NVDA,Parent</string> <key>model</key> <string>nVidia GeForce 9800GT 1024MB</string> <key>name</key> <string>display</string> <key>rom-revision</key> <string>nVidia GeForce 9800GT 1024MB OpenGL Engine [EFI]</string> </dict> </dict> </plist>
I'm not even sure it updates the com.apple.boot.plist file - how can I check? Do I need to "repair permissions after OSX86 Tools or something? Do I need to install Kexts? Thanks!!!

Hi there people. Not sure if I should ask this question about 9800GTX here or somewhere else onthe forum but here goes. Just move my post if its in wrong place.
64 bit kext for Snow leopard for the NVIDIA 9800GTX+ card. Will we need a kext or will EFI strings be enough? are there any 64Bit version kext out there allready or? I dont seem to find anything about it for this card. Anyone knows any answers?

Hi,
Just use GFX strings as you did in Leopard. That is a good solution.
arkapro,
Did you save your com.apple.boot.plist after you created the string - because looking at your details in system profiler, it has not worked. Go to Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration folder and open with textedit to check.

Hi Aquamac,
I have installed iPC 10.5.6, tried to fix by your permissions script, but quartz extreme is still not supported. At least I can see movies without problem. MSI 9800 GTX+, M2N 1394 Im afraid to change resolution, i think I get blue screen again. string is added by osx86tools
Do you have any suggestions? Thanks in advance

Hi cycle,
It may be worth adding the strings manually to see if that helps.
