NON bootable Hardware RAID - is it possible?

Hello good pips!

I'm a video editor - I edit with HD content and need RAID for my DATA HDDs.


I want to install OSX86 on a regular single HDD to keep things simple.
So that if my OS will become unstable - I'll just re-install and the RAID DATA and structure will still stay intact.

I'm going to use the Gigabyte GA-X58-UD5 MoBo that has 10 SATA ports!
this rig will use VISTA64 + Leopard 10.5.7

I want to use its on-board RAID controller to install a RAID-0 or Raid-5 array.

that way I'll be able to set partitions from that raid to windows and for mac on the same array and I won;t depend of the OS's - I'd like to avoid software OS raid - beacause it will depend on the OS stability - the OS is got the RAID is got (correct me if I'm wrong)

I think Hardware RAID array is better because it won't depend on the easy to mess up OSX86 OS that I may reinstall or update updates etc.

I read that the new iAtkos v7 10.5.7 release supports RAID.


But how is it working?

What are my options?

How can I approach this?
