I don't know what to say... I LOVE YOU AQUAMAC For those their 9800GTX/GTX+ does not work : I used the GFX Strings method without NVKush then installed 10.5.5 Combo update, then installed 10.5.5 Graphics Kexts & Framework from Aquamac, repaired permissions and voilàààà !

Hi all, I'm quite new to osx86, I bought a new pc after getting advice of compatible hardware from osx86 wiki. I ended up with Gigabyte ep35-ds3r quad core EVGA 9800GTX+
I've been trying for 2days to make it work trying various things. I'm currently using iATKOS 4 (10.5.4)
My main problems were the VGA (I've tried every single thread regarding 9800gtx) I managed to get it to work using aqua-macs gfx strings tip. here it is
NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GTX DDL:
Chipset Model: NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GTX DDL Type: Display Bus: PCIe PCIe Lane Width: x16 VRAM (Total): 512 MB Vendor: NVIDIA (0x10de) Device ID: 0x0612 Revision ID: 0x00a2 ROM Revision: 3172a Displays: Display Connector: Status: No display connected VGA Display: Resolution: 800 x 600 @ 60 Hz Depth: 32-bit Color Core Image: Hardware Accelerated Main Display: Yes Mirror: Off Online: Yes Quartz Extreme: Supported Rotation: Supported
However my big problem is this... 800x600 ... I can't change it to any higher res, it will only show me the pale blue background screen with no icons.
Any ideas why that might be ? there is no NVinject.kext file in my extensions.

Seems strange, could you try the other DVI port and see what happens.

wow! you were right !
Somehow the DVI port I had my monitor on, only likes 800x600 whereas the other DVI port can accept almost any change in resolution!
Problem fixed! Many thanks!

pulling my hair out atm with this d**n video card lol. basically we are/have setup a xgrid superprocessing network render farm on 3 mac os x 10.5.2 kalyway PC computers and one real imac intel 2.4 duo core computer. now the main render computer is a quad core intel 4 gig of ram 1.75 tb hdd and has the Geforce 9800 GTX card. now i have tried and tried and tried all the ways to load kexts and permissions but it just doesnt even seem to recognise the card at all (id) it knows that it has 512mb vram and has no Qe. is it possible that Flashing it will be the only way. now i dont mind that but im no hex editing pro and i dont wanna screw up a hex code and ruin a $300 gfx card. any ideas?

Hi and welcome. If you are still on 10.5.2 you will have a problem as 10.5.2 + the Apple graphics update is the minimum to get the card even recognised in leopard. You really need to update to 10.5.5 or 10.5.6 recommended. There have also been problems with Kalyway 10.5.2 and this card but hopefully if you get yourself updated things will work. Update then use my graphics string walkthrough herePS, There is absolutely no reason to flash the 8 or 9 series.

Long time since I've been posting anything here, but I've been keeping en eye on the board anyhow . First of all, great work on getting the 9800 GTX working ! I have a couple of questions since my X1950XT are slowly dying. There's been done some interesting work on getting the HD 4850 and HD 4870 working in Hackintoshes, but since this is experimental work, and the boards offered to the new imac and macpro differs in design from the retail boards on sale, I've been thinking on maybe going down the 9800 GTX route instead. 1. Will these cards support dual vga displays (I have two 21" CRT apple studio monitors, currently conncted using DVI->VGA adapters)? 2. What brand of 9800 GTX+ have the highest success rate? I have a setup consisting of a BadAxe2 (Leopard 10.5.6 vanilla/retail install), E6700 running at 3.2 GHz with 4 GB of PC 6400 RAM. Toughpower 850w PSU. Keep up the excellent work!

i have the same problem....i mean...i was able to get more resolutions with the osx86 tools and i even tried to manually add the 1680x1050 resolution but it won't appear in the display settings....
this is what my my graphics hardware shows
NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GTX:
Chipset Model: NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GTX Type: Display Bus: PCIe PCIe Lane Width: x16 VRAM (Total): 512 MB Vendor: NVIDIA (0x10de) Device ID: 0x0612 Revision ID: 0x00a2 ROM Revision: 3172a Displays: VGA Display: Resolution: 1600 x 1200 @ 60 Hz Depth: 32-bit Color Core Image: Hardware Accelerated Main Display: Yes Mirror: Off Online: Yes Quartz Extreme: Supported Rotation: Supported Display Connector: Status: No display connected
does anyone know how can i have 1680x1050?
i have a 9800gtx+ , not the 9800gtx as shown, i guerss that's just a flag missing or something, i only installed osx today...

Cocazinho,
What monitor do you have, I take it 1650 x 1050 is the native res. Also, are you on 10.5.6?

Hello I have an asus vw222s, is native res is 1680x1050... and yes i'm using 10.5.6...i was able to get more res than the 1024x768...like 1600x1200 or more but even tough i've done the method explained with the osc86, adding the efi and the 1680x1050x32 flag, i can't get that res....any idea why? thank you in advance

Is it greyed out, to be honest, I have not come across that before. You should be using the standard 10.5.6 drivers if you have 10.5.6, no need to install my 10.5.5 drivers.
PS. Did you try the other DVI port?

yes i did...i only have 1600x1200 on the dvi near to the mobo, the other one does not work aobve 1024...
the strange thing is that i had this problem with vista and windows 7...never could work at 1680....only in xp....the monitor does not have dvi....only vga...is it possible that is the reason?

Hi first i'm apologize for my poor english, i'm from brazil.
I,d tried to install my EVGA 9800gtx on 10.5.6 and have no luck.
I install the 9800gtx( with the patches) on IPC 10.5.6 Final image, so i try to apply strings on osx86tolls, and for some reason the apple.boot.plist cant be changed. So i start to do your gfx strigs method, and apply the HEX to apple.boot.plist in efi studio. After i aply the permissions with success. Than i delete the nvinject kext and restart.
Result= Nothing QE and CI not supported and the 9800 gtx KEXT disapear. So i apply the permission and my resolution 1600x1050 come back, but the kext dissapear.
Now i've look about your succeful install of 9800 gtx in 10.5.5 with yout installing package. Do you recomend me come bak to the 10.5.5, and if yes what IMAGE to use: Aitkos, Ideneb, or Kalyway with combo update?
MY system are:
Asus P5k Premium( p35 chipset) EVGA 9800 gtx 4Gb Kingston (ddr2 800) Samsung 750gb 32mb Pionner 216d DRIVE
