Ok, here is the layout....
I'm stuck on what Macbook i want to buy. I'm looking at both the pro's and the con's for both the Unibody Macbook and the White Macbook. White has firwire, non LED display, non backlit keyboard, traditional trackpad and button, but the price is nice. The Unibody has no firewire, nice LED display, problematic display port, full glass trackpad with no button, and a little more expensive.
Now i know more factors come into play on this, but the 2 main one's i'm not worried about it the hard drive and the memory *these i will adjust later*.
I want your info on what to get. Both configurations i'm looking at are the low end 2.0 GHz models of the Macbook lines.
So, throw your thoughts in, what you may or even may not like. I want to hear it all before i head out and pick up my laptop.
Thank you aqua-mac forums.

hello red,
I would say : as usual with new products from our beloved Apple, do not rush to buy it. Wait for the fixing of the "baby's" problems, eventually for the first updates (ram, proc, firewire port back, display port?) or go for the old model with firewire if you have pheripherals with firewire connectors and you do not like some new stuffs as shinning screen, probl. display port . That's the way I have always thougt before changing my machine.Cheers and have a good WE. ;D

bb makes a very valid point about the first in a new line of Apple products. I do like the idea of the unibody macbook from a strength point of view as I do lots of traveling, so strength is important to me. If it is not an issue for you, then discount it. Shame Apple have done away with the FW ports, I used to use a small bus powered FW drive which I can see will end up redundant in a few years time. I have started taking a DELL mini 9 around with me, great little machine - so portable, and absolutely everything can be got to work with OSX 86 including the following: Replaced Onboard 8 gig flash memory HDD with a 64 gig Runcore one. Onboard Bluetooth (OOTB) Airport Wireless n (replaced the card) 3G card (OOTB) Onboard Webcam (OOTB) SD Card Slot (With Fix) 3 USB Ports (OOTB) OB Lan (With Fix) External VGA Port Easy to get going too, but best of all - it's tiny! Total cost =£334 for laptop +£157 Runcore HDD +£29 Wireless n card from ebay www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=4578

Firewire isn't an issue with me but so far on my main tower, any external USB drive is problematic right now so i'm a little unsure of my USB cards at the moment. What this will end up being is a desktop replacement for the QS i have now and also double up as a road warrior. The netbook you have Steve is cute, but also to go along with the MB Air, lack of CD/DVD and a slowed down processor, not my cup of tea.
I have seen some other problems stated on the net about the unibody bending near the magsafe port, but that could also just be some random cases of the owner being a little rough with their product. The white MB is plastic, but i also like the fact that if i really wanted to, i could swap the plastics and have it look like my old Pismo reborn.
Doing some research last night and this morning, i found out that the displayport seems to just reside with the MBP and the 30" displays hooked up to a displayport to dual link adapter. Wow, people on the Apple forums are pissed!!!!

Ah, yes the Dell is no desktop replacement useful on the move especially with 3G. The new uni bodies are nice, I was having a play with one at the local Apple store a couple of weeks ago, and they no longer look like the MacBook Pro's little brother but like a real professional laptop. Display port is a bit irksome though on the pro!
I look forward to hearing what you get!

Well, i was in the local London Drugs and i was looking for a 360 game and i happened to stumble upon the mac section they had there. They had an Air, Macbook and a Macbook Pro on display (also a 24" iMac) and i was testing out the Macbook. 2GHz Unibody and the trackpad was smooth. Very nice. The camera and Photobooth could use a little tweaking, not as smooth as a firewire cam would be, but it didn't crash. Safari bounced once and was open, iMovie '09 bounced 6 times and was fully open. Very good wireless signal... the list goes on.
Well, i think i'm sold, a 2GHz Unibody Macbook. Then i can put my QS to rest and try to figure out something to do with the Yikes i have.

Hey, I also had a play with the new unibody today and I have to say, it is one nice computer - really solid, lots of power. Boy, would I like one of those!!!
