Hi,
I've just completed my mac pro case conversion but i've had a few problems with the front panel. Basically the power LED works but the power button doesn't work.
I've followed the guides that aqua-mac made for the front panel but just can't get the power button to work. Can anyone help me out.
The only difference between aqua's build is that i'm using a abit ab9 pro rather than a gigabyte dsr2.
Cheers
J

Hi Jackmanfred and welcome to aquamac forums!
You should only need to connect a single wire from the motherboard to the power switch, it must be from the +ve from your motherboard. You must connect up the _ve to the front panel from the power supply directly. You also need to connect a +ve from the supply too and 3.3 volts from the power supply, check your wiring again.

Thanks for the quick reply aqua, I'm kinda new to solder/electronics so i could really use some help. I followed your wiring diagram to the letter I've taken a picture of my harness if it helps??? The green wire in the photo represents the MSG- & the grey wire represents the PW+ my abit motherboard connector looks like this - Which is different to the gigabyte one - If you can help out i'd be very thankful Cheers J

Connect PW+ to apple pin 4 Connect msg- to apple pin 8
You then need to connect +12 volts, +5 volts and +3.3 volts to yellow, red & orange respectively(Apple pins 2, 4 & 3.
Good Luck.

ok thanks aqua. i think i get what you mean, sorry for being slow.
I just connect the PW+ connector to apple pin 4 and then to the motherboard power plug then to the motherboard front panel and apple pin 6 becomes redundant.
i'll give it try today and let you know how i get on
cheers

Aqua mac i've just been soldering apple pin 4 to the +5 volts and then to my motherboard header but it still doesn't work. As the LED on the front of the case works i'm assuming the on/off button works? Is there any easy way to test this? Cheers J

Hey guys I'm new here to the forum. You all have done some amazing work! I am currently working on my case and am curious about the front panel. Where can I pick up the actual USB and firewire connector that fits that panel. Did it come with your case? Thanks and keep up the great work!

Hi mrg299,
Do you mean the actual circuit board or the leads. The leads have to be made for a hackintosh. I expect Apple Palace, We Love Macs or VIS Apple Parts could supply the circuit board.

Ya my case didn't come with the circuit boards so that's what I needed. Thanks for your quick response! From there I can follow the diagram you provided. Thanks for all of your help! This is a great forum.

Do u have to solder the wire to the Mac Pro front board or is it like the G5 one, where you just solder wires.

Sorry, I mean to say Do you need to solder the +12 volts, +5 volts and +3.3 volts, Power and Led wire directly onto the Mac Pro Front Panel board, Or do you solder them to another cable. Like G5 Front Panel Comes with a cable which you solder your usb, firewire power and led to the corresponding wire. Hopefully you understand what I mean.
Thanks Again

Oh right,
There is a 8 pin socket in the mac pro front panel board and a plug that you can solder power etc to. You also need to chop a Sata lead to work with the USB front sockets.
