Hi so far i have got up to this step
Go back to terminal you should still be in the desktop directory and type this. ./gfxutil -i xml -o hex ./in.plist ./out.hex
no matter how i type it i cannot get the out.hex
can someone explain to me why, and how do i solve this problem.
and when there is a dot in front, ex., ./gfxutil , does it mean that i have to put in all the directory infront of it?
please be detailed of how i solve this problem i am very new to mac

Copy and paste the commands exactly as they are then they will work.
Make sure you unpack all the files to the desktop from the file they arrive in. You need to do the cd desktop command too so the program knows where the files are.

If anyone could help I would really appreciate it.
No matter what I use(injector or gfx strings) I cannot get past the blue screen when logging in. With nothing installed it works but with the ghosting the others had.
The only slight progress I have made is when using osx86tools for gfx strings - I was able to see a flicker of the desktop a couple of times going back to blue each time - using the dvi furthest from mobo which doesn't usually work.
I am out of ideas anyone have one?

and still doesnt work, and i tried not deleting them, still doesnt work. I have put in the Vram size, still doesnt work.
this my edited the in.plist before going in to the terminal
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd"> <plist version="1.0"> <dict> <key>PciRoot(0x0)/Pci(0x1,0x0)/Pci(0x0,0x0)</key> <dict> <key>@0,compatible</key> <string>NVDA,NVMac</string> <key>@0,device_type</key> <string>display</string> <key>@0,name</key> <string>NVDA,Display-A</string> <key>@1,compatible</key> <string>NVDA,NVMac</string> <key>@1,device_type</key> <string>display</string> <key>@1,name</key> <string>NVDA,Display-B</string> <key>@2,#adress-cells</key> <string>0x01000000</string> <key>@2,#size-cells</key> <string>0x00000000</string> <key>@2,compatible</key> <string>NVDA,sensor-parent</string> <key>@2,device_type</key> <string>NVDA,gpu-diode</string> <key>@2,hwctrl-params-version</key> <string>0x02000000</string> <key>@2,hwsensor-params-version</key> <string>0x02000000</string> <key>@2,name</key> <string>sensor-parent</string> <key>@2,reg</key> <string>0x02000000</string> <key>NVCAP</key> <data> BAAAAAAAAwAMAAAAAAAABwAAAAA= </data> <key>NVPM</key> <data> AQAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA== </data> <key>VRAM,2047</key> <data> AAAAIA== </data> <key>device_type</key> <string>NVDA,GeForce</string> <key>model</key> <string>NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT</string> <key>name</key> <string>NVDA,Parent</string> <key>rom-revision</key> <string>3172a</string> </dict> </dict> </plist>

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd"> <plist version="1.0"> <dict> <key>Kernel</key> <string>custom</string> <key>Kernal Flags</key> <string></string> <key>Boot Graphics</key> <string>Yes</string> <key>Quiet Boot</key> <string>No</string> <key>Timeout</key> <string>5</string> </dict> </plist>
can you please have a look at this, is there something i have to edit or delete? please help me
thank you very much

I have a question. What other changes do I have to make to these files in order to get my Geforce 9800m GTS 1 GB to work? You didn't mention what the code would be for a 1 GB graphics card. I'm using Kalyway 10.5.2 and a Gateway P-7805u laptop. Thank you for being so patient!

Just finished updating one of my installs with this method and it worked brilliantly! The system is still a work in progress as I haven't updated sound, LAN, etc. yet but here are the specs..maybe it'll help someone in the future:
OS: iAtkos v5i (10.5.5) -- this is the only one this worked with however..did not work with 10.5.2 Kalyway for some reason--Voodoo kernel v9.5.0 MB: XFX nForce4 790i Ultra SLI Graphics: XFX 9800 GTX 512 MB Storage: Dual 150GB 10,000RPM SATA WD Raptors; IDE DVD-R
Thanks so much, aquamac!

espexplorer81,
I have added your card to the first post in this thread, check it out!
Tonkab,
You need a full set of nvidia kexts for this to work + you need my drivers with 10.5.5 or minimum 10.5.6 with your card.

Your driver that you are talking about, is it the one u have posted on the top of the first page? if it is, i have downloaded that already and followed your instructions,
if not, can u guide me of where i can find the driver?
and where can i find the full set of nvidia kext?
thank you very much

Are you using 10.5.5 or 10.5.6. You will need a different set of drivers depending on which one. If you have 10.5.5 go here. If you have 10.5.6 all the drivers for your card are with your install but you need the combo update from the Apple site (This is very important), over 600 meg download. You will need to get rid of any injectors in your Extensions folder, like NVInject.kext, Natit.kext or NVKush.,kext as well. You then need to install GFX Strings. By the way, you edited the vram incorrectly so that will never work. What VRAM is your card.

I am using a Leopard 10.5.5 iAtkos 5i
my VRAM is 512 MB GDDR3 , what should i type in to correct it?
and by installing the GFX strings, u mean the things that i have done from your instructions, right?
Thank youu

There is already a download for a 9600 GT with 512 mb of ram in the first post, so the only thing you need to change is the PCIe address at the top. All the ram amounts and other stuff is already OK.
To get sound working, you need to find which motherboard you have and which sound chip it has.

Hey There
I've watched these forums and those at insanelymac for the last two weeks in one long struggle to get things up and running.
And I have the most admiration for you guys for helping each other out, if only people did this more; the world would be a much better place.
After running into one too many walls, I've decided to post and see if you have any suggestions.
After trying several distributions I was sucessful with leo4all and updated to 10.5.5. However my the only resolutions left open to me were 800x600, so I tried your method. Admittedly I installed your 9 Series drivers before doing the gfxstrings thing, but I do not believe this is the cause of the problem.
At boot, when in verbose mode, things just freeze at
CODE SIGNING: cs_invalid_page: p=68[ATAServer} clearing CS_VALID
I also noticed that when looking at the help (?) of the darwin boot load, I see aload of crap instead of the normal help information:
" Timeout=8 Number of seconds to pause the boot: promp.ng
06d007(aload of characters) /string (another 5 lines of numbers and letters) "
One thing i noticed was that when I ran gfxutil, the output seemed to be missing one pci device path when compared to yours and all others i have seen. I get:
PciRoot(0x1)/Pci(0x5,0x0)
and when I look in system profiler, under Graphics/Display I see two devices. The first says its bus is on the PCI and the other is on the PCIe. On my desktop the card fits into the PCIexpress slot and also there is a onboard graphics on the motherboard which isn't connected to anything, so I'm not sure what that first PCI one is.
My Setup AMD Sempron 3400 Gigabyte GA-M51GM-S2G (nForce 430) Nvidia 9800GTX Currently Running Leo4All
Thanks in advance

Managed to solve this by disabling the onboard GPU. resolution seems great thanks! Only problem is I can't do anything because my moues is erratically locking and jumping all over the place
Saw a few other guys with the same problem, but couldn't find any solutions.
Any ideas?
