Guys quick Question, being an ASRock lover, Have anyone used this board ( ASRock P43Twins1600 ). I found it on a local listing here in my home town, I picked it up in the new box still for $20. I was thinking of using this in the G5 case ( still waiting on ) Well, going to give a shot as it is a INTEL chip north & south bridge. Specs. are Here

If they didn't send what you asked for, I say send it back Joe, after all this limits the amount of ram you can put in your computer to a max of 4 gigs when I assume you were after the chance to built it up to 8 gigs one day. I might send it back as im waiting on a mobo anyway... I wasnt clear, but I always had 4 x 1gb DIMMS but i bought them as two 2x1gb Ballistix Tracer 8500 kits. now i appear to have just four 1 gig Ballistix 8500 DIMMS. They didnt ship to me as two sets of 2x1gb kits.. so i think there just singles. Dude your ASrock Mobo should be fine... I assume the P43 is close to the P45 in spec. But dont take my word for it. J. Well, Guess I'll be getting a Quad Core soon now I was having trouble with my nvidia card with the new board, So I called ASRock support #, got a live person, which to make a long story short, they had me update the bios on to 1.70 from 1.50 via there website download. I guess after I flashed, it burnt out my E6750 & the tech. was like, well I guess your SOL, call use back if you still have trouble, once you get a new Processor. I guess that what I get for being lucky for a day. So, anyone have any thought on what Quad I should get? Looking for a budget Quad, at least till I sell my iBook. Plus wifes computer is slow for what I'm used to, but it will have to do for now Edit* Figures something like this would happen right before I get my G5 case, lol.

You're talking about CPU not Mobo, then try to get the Q6600, that's the best quality /price rate for the moment with great overclocking possibility Check overclockers.co uk

Very strange a new mobo would burn out a CPU! bb is correct the Q6600 offers the best performance for its price tag. I just blew out my mobo... I hope my E8200 isnt dead! that CPU OC's like a dream.

Yes CPU, Sadly I found this out after a several hours of testing, though I had it happen once before a very long time ago, ( around 8 years ago ) so I kinda expected I was right, after all the Bios flash Checks it self 3 times with this boards, so the flash was golden. After test everything else though, it became clear it was the CPU The Q6600 sounds like a plan to me. Thanks for posting that, I was thinking I was going to have top spend around $500, but it's cheaper than I thought it would be.

originalmacnut,
I bought mine on ebay about 220 euro, cheaper than the market place at the time. Now the price drop a lot because of the new CPU's.

originalmacnut, the guys are right, for bang per buck, you can't beat it! NOTE the overclock below - it actually boots @ 4 gigs but eventually becomes unstable, but even then only programs quitting, it never brought down the system!

Well, Odd turn in events. I ordered the Q6600, but in the time being I wanted my PC back up and running. This is where it gets weird, I bought a E2180 to get me up in running again, however, upon replacing the CPU it Burnt out the new Intel E2180. I called ASRock, I asked if the the 1.70 has any known issue with C2D CPU's? They made a report of it, as this is 2 C2D CPU's that this bios has burnt, though a 825 Pentium D works correctly. I called a few Shops before calling asrock. I had a Tech. tell me if the Vcore and any other voltage settings are incorrect, this would cause the problem. After dealing with asrock, I'm afraid I'll be left with 2 newer C2D that are Fried, they wouldn't comment, nor tell me if this is a known problem, though they did say they would try to correct this issue. In the time being, there going to send me a replacement bios to see if any other C2D will boot. I'm glad I found this problem before my Q6600 has arrived, as this would be a sad day. Forgot to add, The Tech. Told me with this issue, That don't use the term burnt, as burnt is regarding a heat issue with the CPU. The term to use is Shorted, As upon installing it Shorts the CPU leaving it dead. He said this will make a difference pending the person you talk to, and could effect RMA, if any. Was great to talk to, and I would still recommend them, just hope they get this issue solved. PS. Now I wish I had went with the DFI board like I wanted EDIT* After spending most the Day on the Phone with ASRock & Intel. The P43 is going to be RMA, as well Both INTEL's E6750 & then E2180. Intel was so easy to RMA, Just need the CPU # and the CPU fan #'s off the back. At least I'm not out any PC parts, Just have to wait now, I've Sent everything today once I got the Directions and the RMA #'s for everything. Alls well that Ends well

If i were you, I'd wait for the RMA CPU's to return then sell them... keep the Q6600 and buy a new motherboard. Two shorted CPU's on a mobo your gonna keep is a scary thought. I really hope asrock resolve the issue and its replacment doesnt have the same problem.. LOL... reading your posts make me panic... I'm gonna be gutted if once i drop my E8200 into the DFI and boot it turns out to be shorted too! Best of luck mate, keep positive! I'm sure you'll have it all rockin in no time! J.

okay... I got a question... I've booted up into VISTA (no OSX yet) using the DFI board... and it worked fine..... I'm confused! lol... its X48 not G33. I downloaded all drivers listed for my mobo from the DFI site and none of them are chipset drivers... would the chipset me the north or south bridge? how do i know if I'm not doing any damage?? it has the same LAN and Audio as the DS2R from what i can tell as there drivers are installed and my sound and Net work great...
Its running stupid hot! never felt a northbridge so hot to the touch... Gonna shut down and pick up some new thermal paste tomorrow... re-apply and see how it goes..
Aqua-mac - does your X48 run warm? hotter then your DS2R?
cheers.

Hi Joe, Yup certainly runs hot. Mind you the DS2R ran hot too. Actually the Std intel CPU fan does an OK job of cooling the chipset, wheras some of the aftermarket fans are not quite as good as they do not cool all the heatsinks that are surrounding the CPU. My 9800's really whack out the heat and are just about bearable to the touch. Seem to work fine though. The fans work harder in windows and cool the card better and I wonder if there is part of the fan control in the 9800's bios that is not fully compatible with the OSX drivers. On another note, I wonder if your board supports booting from a 9800GX2 in the first PCIe slot in OSX 86. The only board I have heard of working so far is the Intel DX48 BT2

Joe, Did you re-install Vista? If not, then it's using the same Chipset as the g33 did. Windows will not boot if anything is different on the board, been this way since XP. Though I would get the latest driver for the new board.

i didnt re-install... all i did was was sort out the BIOS... then boot in safe mode... uninstalled all drivers i could find... that being said it was only like the network drivers and audio drivers i couldnt find any chipset drivers installed to uninstall.... so i then rebooted.... and it all worked fine... no problems.... everest doesnt reconize my mobo manufacture but that could be an old version issue.. I've downloaded all DFI drivers but none of them seem to be like chipset drivers... its odd...
I dont want to re-install vista.. i had just got it the way i likied when my DS2R died.

Well, Still waiting on the RMA stuff. This 1.5g Pentium M is getting so old. Can't wait for my stuff to get here. I did talk to ASRock about the board though, it was bad and since it fried 2 CPU's they gave me an upgrade board. Hope to chat soon again. -OMN
