What's the normal operating temp for the MDD 1.42? I took off the heat sink today too look at the resistors and stuff mostly just wanted to take a look at the whole thing I was curious and I was running temp monitor before but cant recall the temps before I did this now they seem kinda high. I did put new thermal paste on and at idle it ranges from 52-53 C. Is that normal?

52-53 is perfectly normal for an MDD. Yes it is high but MDD's always run at high temps. This is mainly because the processors don't nap like other G4's & G5's. However you can download CHUD tools 3.5.1 (Go to the download section at aqua-mac). This will allow you to enable nap on an MDD which should drop your temps nicely to around 45 degrees. This enables the processors to lower their voltage, which in turn allows them to run cooler. Athlons have used this technology on their chips for some time & core duos drop their speed when the chips are idling. This is done without a performance hit as the processors speed up to full speed when required, instantly.
If you need any more info, post back.

One other question what is the best way to clean off thermal paste? I just simply scraped off the old with the applicator.

I usually use white spirit & kitchen roll, but I think industrial alcohol is usually recommended.

I use clean tissue and any beauty product with acohol, like the samples for parfumes, after shave or eau de toilette you receive when you buy a product in this kind of shops. It is cheap and smell good and clean very well too.
