Hey all. I Guess you heard about the "VRAM = -2048" apple BUG I have this card: EVGA GeForce GTX 285 Superclocked Edition 2GB 512-bit That is 2 GB of RAM for the cardI run Hackintosh - Leoard 10.5.7 Everything works AMAZING GOOD. But Apple do not support 2GB GPUs so I get in the system profiler - GPU info: VRAM = -2048 As I said every thing runs great but when I try to run Pro apps like Final cut Pro. it says that I have "-2048 Ram and the minimum requirements are 128MB" (!) So there is any way to make it think it has less RAM? Maybe to flash it some how to GTX 285 1GB BIOS? or even better - is there a way to PHYSICALLY remove some RAM from the card? Please help me ASAP! I have a project for editing coming - and I cant hold the client any more!!! thanks!

Not good news I am afraid in the short term, although I am sure Apple will support a 2 gig card soon as they start to become more popular. No way of physically removing the ram without trashing the card. Even if the bios was reduced to 1 gig, I am pretty sure this would result in a kernel panic at boot. My suggestion is to swap out the card temporarily for one with less ram or perhaps trade it for a 1 gig card.

Maybe I'll go for a pair of 260's? What about perfomance? will the a pair of 260's be better of one GTX 285? In PC I can DO SLI and I think it will give even more performance. what about the MAC? will it give me more performance for GPU consuming programs like Motion etc?? Or will it just give me more DVI ports but less performance than a single GTX 285?? I guess I can also get a GTX 260 2nd hand for a very cheep price. and use GTX 260 896MB + my GTX285 2GB card together. (I think FCP will then let me be... ) Question is how does Hackintosh deal with mulipull cards? does it use all the POWER and MEMORY? or just uses one of them ?

A pair of 260's will run fine SLi'd in windows and should be better in some games than the 285 providing the game takes advantage of SLi and your board supports it (X58 or Nvidia). In a Mac you will just get extra DVI ports as SLi is not currently supported. You will get the power only from the card you are connected to, eg the GTX 260. Let me know what motherboard you have as not all of them will work with 2 cards in OS X.

Here are my specs: Mobo: GA-X58-UD5 100% Working (DD's Script) || CPU: i7 920 @3.2 || GPU: EVGA GTX285 2GB OC Netkas Drivers OSX: 10.5.7 (10.5.6 Retail + 10.5.7 update) I tried to plug GTX285 1GB and it works great I tried to add the GTX285 2GB got kernel Panic on boot (win7 launched great) So I got some offers to trade my GTX285 2GB SSC: 1. EVGA GTX 260 Core 216 Superclocked Edition + 160$ 2. POINT OF VIEW GTX285 1GB + 50$ If i'm not getting any performance boost from running 2 cards - then I'll stick to one strong card. Its a shame I'm giving back on my GTX285SSC 2GB... d**n Apple OpenGL bug!
