10.4.10 works happily on my Hackie, just edited the kernel from 10.4.9 to 10.4.10 to get bluetooth and DMG files opening OK. Been using for a couple of days without any side effects I can find.

After fixing the "about this mac" problem everything seems okay. Needs the updated VMWare fusion, now Beta 4.1.

Well I've been using 10.4.10 for a couple of weeks. So far I have had two system lockups, no spinning beach ball from hell, the machine just becomes completely unresponsive. Both times I've had iTunes running (probably not related) and sound output becomes a perpetual stutter. This is using the 8.10.1 Darwin kernel with r3d3.kext decrypt. It could be some piece of hardware has decided to die I suppose. I wonder how much longer till the source for Darwin 8.10 is released, if ever? It would be nice to try a new kernel.

Well I see Apple have finally answered my question I will be trying the new kernel with built in hackintosh goodness tonight. If anybody else is like me and is still on Tiger (I can't afford Leo just yet) the new hacked kernel can be found on irc://irc.osx86.hu in the #10.4.10 channel.

I never thought about this before - does that mean the 8.10.1 kernel I have right now is bogus?

Without the source code for the kernel the required decryption had to be performed via a kext. Having the source allows decryption to be built into the kernel. Also, it allows cool things like stepspeed to be implemented on the hackintosh.

Well two days later and i've finaly installed the stepspeed friendly kernel. As a expected the machine sleeps and wakes properly again. ;D
