So I took some part of a Dlink program for ralink chips, did some hex editing and image editing in gimp, and came with a almost airport like solution. So how to do it: 1. backup your existing Ralink programs 2. remove all existing Ralink programs from app folder, and startup folder (don't delete kexts in S/L/E!!) Download this: www.mediafire.com/download.php?mmfi22hj2dhInside the file U have two things: 1. RalinkWirelessUtility.prefPane -> install it in /System/Library/PreferencePanes/ 2. RalinkAirport.app -> install it in Applications folder 3. Under System Preferences/Accounts add this RalinkAirport.app to Login Items Works in Intel/PPC and 10.4 and 10.5 Original thread on croatian site: www.mackorisnik.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=6972

Hi Jadran, I am trying this, but although I get the word "connecting" showing in the menu bar, it only stays for a second then disappears and there is no airport icon. The System Preferences works when you click the icon, I get a connection, but only then, not when clicking on the RalinkAirport icon or launching it at startup. I tried 2 systems - same result.

Well it works for me and guys on msi wind forum: forums.msiwind.net/mac/ralinkairport-app-application-for-your-menubar-t11656.htmlI must say one thing it is for RT73 ralink chip. But if the pref pane is working, the RallinkAirport.app should work too. Did U drag and drop the Pref pane in System/Library/PreferencePanes/ (if U double clicked on prefpane it is not installed in that place) I tested it on G3 (Tiger) G4 (Tiger) and Hackintosh (Leopard) and works on every each of them.

Yes I placed it in the System/Library/PreferencePanes folder as you instructed repaired permissions in the Terminal, but the 2 USB dongles I have use the RT 2870USBWireless driver, so maybe that is it. They are wireless "n". Maybe they have to be 54g. When you install the std Ralink driver, it installs kexts for both the RT73 & RT2870 chips. I wonder what the chances to get the app to work with the pref pane are. As I say the pref pane works fine with the original app to get it going.

Well... This i s a great thing! :-) I think that we can make a pref pane a little more airport, but that would be just cosmetic... I told the guys on msi wind forum, that they can try to hex edit the app and add their devices... But they would need to edit and pref pane too...
EDIT : P.S I tried to post this in insanelymac forum, and I was unable to add topic (Maybe because i just registered). but if U can put both apps for other guys so we can share a knowledge?

What do U think about removing stuff from "Available Wireless Network" to make it look something like this: These are all information what we need to see in this part of pref pane

Sounds like a good idea as it cleans up the look nicely.

Hi Is there a way to make it work with pci card? I have an asus WL-130N card based on ralink 2860 chip. It works fine under leo 10.5.7 with the drivers from ralink site. It would be nice to see airport icon
