I'm seriously thinking of putting together a HackPro based on a Workstation board (depending on my financial situation and W.A.F. 
).
The board I have in mind is the Supermicro X8DAL-i: www.supermicro.com/products/motherboard/QPI/5500/X8DAL-i.cfm
Chipset: Intel® 5520 (Tylersburg) chipset
ICH10R + IOH-36D
CPU: Dual 1366-pin LGA Sockets

Memory: 6x 240-pin DIMM sockets
Supports up to 24 GB 1333 / 1066 / 800MHz DDR3 ECC Registered memory
Supports up to 24 GB 1333 / 1066 / 800MHz DDR3 ECC Unbuffered memory
HD-ports: 6 SATA ports
Controllers: Intel ICH10R SATA 3.0Gbps Controller

The only thing missing is FireWire, but other than that it looks very promising. And all at a cost of about 300$ +/-
I took a quick comparison between the new dual quad core MacPro (basic configuration) and a similar system based on the X8DAL-I (same CPU's, twice the memory and a better Graphics Card) and it came out about 1000$ less than the MacPro. So I must say it is a very tempting project to pursue.
Does anyone here have any experience with a Workstation or Serverboard based Hackintosh?
