Hello, this is my first post on this forum, aquamac seems to be quite involved in this community! trying to get as many fixes out there. I have been having problems with my Mac OSx86 installation from the IPC DL live dvd and it seems to be one of the only ones that has all the fixes i need. previous errors were Using 16384 buffer headers and 4096 cluster panic(cpu 0 caller 0x004358F3): "Unable to find driver for installation for this" panic(cpu 0 caller 0x001A8ACE): Local APIC error NTFS volume name , version 3.1 with every installation disk i needed to boot with the cpus=1 boot parameter.(except with ideneb, but that had all the above errors) anyway this is all just giving you information with my current problem, trying to get my video card to work with QE/CI. my computer is the Asus N80VN with the video card GeForce 9650m GT. these are the methods i tried: the macbook pro updates in 10.5.6 nvinject nvdarwin NVIDIA 9 Series Driver Installer gfx strings(this one seems to get the farthest, other than nvinject) and some other various things, with no luck. have you heard of any or can you come up with any other possible solutions? if not can you tell me the method that would be most likely to succeed? other drivers that still need to be fixed, but are less needed: wireless-Intel 5100 ABGN sound-Azalia if anyone could help me i would be very grateful.

Hi there and welcome to aquamac forums.
Don't know which ideneb you tried but the latest version has a ACPI fix that you can select that should solve the buffer header problem.
You want to set the formatting of your HDD to GUID when you partition in disk utility, this will destroy all data on your hard disk obviously and you will not be able to put windows on there either. What is the device id of your graphics card. I will check that your id is in the drivers, though I am pretty sure it will be.

I want to first thank you for being fast, in helping me, as you seem to be very involved in this community.
i was using ideneb 1.4(the newest) and tried many of the patches on there. what i did to solve that error was install the kexts manually(using the IPC live DVD) and it got past that part.
hmm, I cant format it to GUID because that would cause me to resetup the partitioning system and I need windows/linux on my computer to use in class. and i have another partition to centralize data within all the operating systems i have installed. I have a working installation on my laptop right now of leopard, excluding QE/CI, sound and wifi, wifi is not necessary since i plug in to the network in all of my classrooms, the sound would be nice but it doesn't seem like it has a compatible driver in linux, so i will need to figure something out there. so basically all i need to get is the QE/CI setup so i can use leopard fully.
ok right, so back to the nvidia problem. the device id is 10de:064c

Hi,
Yes your card should be covered. Did you use OSX86 tools or install GFX strings manually?

yes, i used osx86 tools and opened the add efi string/boot flag, and then clicked on the GFX strings.
after that i went to find my graphics card on the list and it was not there, so i select custom. and selected the following: name: geforce 9650m gt ram: 1024mb display output: VGA/DVI-I (not too sure if this option was correct)
then i select ok and it generates the test for me.
i select import to boot editor, and it copied the long string to the efi string section.
after i do that i get an error "Applescript error /bin/sh: /Applications/OSx86: no such file or directory (127)"
but i know that OSx86 is there, since thats where i ran it from
any help from this? i also verified that it was there by going to the terminal and typing cd /Applications/OSx86 and then an ls command after, and it had the OSx86tools.app inside
(i have tried manually adding this string to the plist before, it did not work)

ok, i tried again, added the <key>device-properties</key> <string> text from osx86 tools here</string> to the end the last key entry to my com.apple.boot.plist
and still no QE
edit: ok found the problem with OSx86tools, i had it in a folder inside applications, it has to be inside the application and not another folder, edited the gfx keys that way and rebooting. edit: edit: still not working

Have you tried following my manual walkthrough here. Manual strings will input extra information than OSX86 tools which your motherboard may need. Try this, but if you do, do not use OSX86 tools but the full manual installation, downloading the specific input list for your card.

should i use this one? Files for 9600m GS 1024mb cards?
mine is the 9650m gt 1024mb, it seems close enough, should this one work?
by the way i have used this method before and it didn't work at that time, but i will always give it another go!
edit: it says i need to uninstall the kext i was using before, i was using nvinject 2.1, so do i just delete that 1 kext from my extensions folder?(just the NVinject.kext?) edit2: i tried just removing the NVinject.kext and still no QE

hideinthesky, What kernel are you using, vanilla or voodoo? There must be some common reason why some people have no problems but others just cannot get QE & CI going. Personally I think it is something other than GFX Strings or injectors such as NVinject. Here is the voodoo kernel to work with 10.5.6. I have included a Read Me instruction file and Seatbelt.kext from 10.5.5 which is required: rapidshare.com/files/214430937/Voodoo_kernel_for_10.5.6.zip

wow, thanks for helping me this much.
i followed the readme, when i was verifying what files i had in the root, i noticed my current kernel(the one i backed up) was the exact same file size(to the byte) of that voodoo kernel, and if i remember correctly thats what i installed. since they are the same file size, i think that is the kernel i already had, unless all kernels are the same file size, but i doubt that.
thanks for trying to help, any more ideas?

Most kernels are in fact the same file size. Only kernels from developer distributions tend to be bigger as they contain a debugging element. To find which kernel you have, open the Terminal and type:
uname -a
The kernel in the file above is Darwin 9.6.0
This is the Voodoo 9.5.0 kernel that I changed to be more compatible with 10.5.6 so it is compatible with the 10.5.6 System.kext

aquamac, about the different kernels.
No luck. I'm on a 9600 gt 512 mb and read your post above.
I tried XNUstagekernel, voodoo 9.5.0 kernel, and vanilla kernel, all three only lead to software acceleration in core image and no quartz extreme support.
I inserted EFI string through the hex code and I'm running 10.5.6 retail. I've also tried 10.5.5 and your series 9 installer, but that didn't work as well.
