hey guys, long time lurker first time poster i started reading this board about six months ago with the intention of modding a Mac Pro case to fix a mini ATX mobo and components. i even contacted aquamac by email to find out where he sourced his empty case's. after not being able to find one for less than £100 i decided to forget about it. that was until a couple of weeks ago. long story short, i came into a free case. problem is, it's slightly damaged. it looks like it's been dropped, bending the rear foot and causing the outside case to come away from the inside cage. not a problem i thought, i'll simply strip the case, re-mount the countersunk mounting points, which i luckily have, and screw it back together. wrong... i got as far as the last two screws hiding behind the optical drive shutters. being the impatient sod i am, i decided not to post here first, but skip straight to gluing the outside case to the inside cage with some Araldite, reading that it's "as good as a weld". i left it for nearly 24 hours with a clamp on it. when i took it off all seemed good. i attached the side door and marvelled at my god like DIY skills. until i unlocked the door and the join broke. which brings me back to what i should have done in the first place. if anyone knows how i can remove the optical drive shutters, i'd greatly appreciate it.

Hi Grumptink, Araldite is good stuff but for aluminium on aluminium you should use some JB COLD WIELD! its the bollox! you'll need to clean off your Araldite and find a thick file. scratch up the contact points to help the weld really get a grip. I'd set it in place and hold it over night with a D-Clamp. once cold weld sets... its not coming apart..... EVER! my old man has plugs holes in car engines with the stuff! as for your Drive bay doors they do come off.. I took mine off mistakingly thinking they needed to come off inorder to removed the shelf. ( i was wrong) and since putting them back on my bottom shutter is a little stiff.. they were quite easy to come out.. remove the drive bays and nearest to you there is a vertical screw one at the front (or right of the drive) and one at the back (left of the drive) from memory thats all I've got it was a little fiddly.. but putting them back on it harder then taking them off.. Hope that helps. Joe.
