I bought an Ebay flashed X800XT which was supposed to work in my G4Dual MDD 1.25Ghz. Anyhow Suprise suprise the thing didn't!
It was showing in the System profiler but wouldn't Boot connected to my monitor so i did a bit of research {mac-elite,Strangedogs etc] & deciced to try to RE-Flash it myself. [Maybe not a great idea]
I followed the step by step instructions to flash this card in OS X * Installed an old PCI graphics card + the X800XT *Booted in Safe Mode [Tiger] *Used the Graphiccelerator 1.3.3a download with the Multi-Dumper & Flasher * Ran the "Run me First" app * Dumped the ROM with the ATI multi-dumper *Loaded the Multi-Flasher with the ATIhack_x800xt_reduced.rom and did the business. *Shut down and pulled out the PCI Graphics card i was using to operate with and plugged my monitor into the Flashed ATI X800XT socket.
* Voila!! Nothing...It won't even show in the System profiler?
Now none of the ATI tools [Dumper/Flasher]seem to open properly so i can't reload the ROM
From my beginners knowledge on the topic it looks like the ROM has been corrupted or Fried... Is there any way to troubleshoot my way out of this situation ? If the chip is Fried where do you get replacements & how hard is it to replace ?
Any help gratefully accepted Cheers

Sound like you forgot to open the rom in hex editor and change the dev ID in the in rom to match your cards ID. This might help you out a bit. www.s155158671.websitehome.co.uk/macx800xtaqua-ma.htmlHow to flash the Card You are going to do this flash in a mac (However if you want to back up your PC rom you will need to do that in a pc). Also the computer must be running Panther, NOT TIGER AS THIS WILL NOT BOOT WITH A PC CARD THAT HAS NOT YET BEEN FLASHED. 1.Download the X800 XT rom from strangedogs.com. It must be the modified reduced rom as the card has a 64 kb chip on it. 2. The Sapphire card has a Device id of 4A 4A. The rom for the X800 XT has a device id of 4A 48. You must use Hexeditor and change the device id in the rom on lines 3 & 8 to 4A 4A. 3.When you have done that, save it and using Rorqual's Graphicellerator install the rom into the no confirmation flasher. It must be this one! If you are installing in a G4 you must also tape pins 3 & 11. You don't need to do this with a G5. 4.Either use a PCI graphics card with your monitor connected to this and the X800 in the AGP slot or use VNC & another computer so you can see what you are doing. If you use a PCI card bear in mind that if the card is also an ATI card it's going to get flashed as well, so this will need to be reflashed later! 5. Boot up Panther & hit the No Confirm flasher that is on your desktop. All ATI cards that are in the computer will be flashed. 6. If you are successfull, when you reboot you will see the grey Apple screen. Reminder:This Card will only work with VGA MONITORS. DVI will not be functional!!

Thanks Mate,
Yes , That's all good...But i can't get the card to show up in the system now so i can't do anything to it! Would plugging it into a PC to see if it's recognised or even trying to reflash in PC maybe? See the thing is in my Mac it's not showing up in Slot 1 AGP in System Profiler now...But my old card [Radeon 9000] does show when i put it back in ? I'm lost i'm afraid.....

If you have access to a PC, you could always try to reflash in it. I've never had any luck in flashing in the Mac's, All flashing I do is in a pc, if you made a back-up of your old rom, I would start there. If that don't work, and the pc fails to see it too, then you may need to replace the rom on the card.
However, it could be your MDD. I've had alot of bad luck with these G4's and getting cards to work in them, success is 50/50 for me.
On another note, Some cards that wouldn't work, would work fine if I removed my add-in USB PCI card, if you have one, try removing that first, if you can get it to flash in a pc.

OK...I've followed all the steps above & the card still won't show up in Slot1. I'm figuring i must have stuffed up the Rom chip.. I know it's a dumb question but where is the Rom chip located on the X800XT? Also where can you buy a replacement? I'm In Australia... Cheers
