Dear Aqua,
as i have a real Quadro 5500 in my Machine, naturally i try to get it running with QE...
i managed using EFI_V8 and GFX Strings to get it recognized correctly as 5500 (ID 0x029c) with 1GB RAM in save-mode. NV-Cap correct according to nvcapmaker...
but i failed miserably so far starting in normalmode... either i get a black-screen (with working Mouse) or if i edit the pciid in NVDANV40HAL.kext i get the blue-gradient screen (with mouse) but no further success...
system.log only gives me:
NVDANV40HAL loaded and registered.
What can i do to find out what i have to do next? I assume I'm very near to get this working, but I'm out of ideas now, what i do wrong...
Hopefully you can shed some light.
thanks for the wonderful services you provide for use all.
regards Darky

The reason your card will not boot is because all 7 series cards need to be flashed to work in OSX 86. The rom needs to be fixed. I have done loads of 512 mb cards but not 1024 mb card. Can you send me your rom? Instructions on how to save it are here

Don't worry, you are not stupid, there is no attachment function on pro-boards unfortunately, but as you quite rightly point out, rapid share works well enough. I will take a look at your rom this evening.

You haven't checked your PM's.
Well I will save you the time, this may take a while as I said before, I have never changed a card to a 1024 mb. If I get this wrong your card will die and will need the rom chip changing as the computer will loop and you cannot get to boot to even re-flash the rom.
Which country are you in, I am in the UK. It would be a lot better for me to have the card for testing. I do not want to send a rom that may kill your card and there is every chance this can happen the first time.

Send me your 8800 GTX rom and I can mod it to Quadro FX 5600. Never tried in Linux. You will have to give it a go.

Here is you bios that I have converted to Quadro FX 5600: Click HereUnpack the rom and copy to your windows start up floppy disk that has nvflash on it. Then boot with the floppy and when you get to the A: prompt. Type: nvflash -4 -5 -6 -j Q5600.rom Then hit return. (Don't forget to leave a single space as I have above or it won't work). You will get a warning as I have changed the device id to 01 9D (Quadro FX 5600) and vendor id to nvidia. Don't worry, hit the "Y" key 3 times to get past the warning. When the card has finished flashing, remove the floppy and power down. If you are using OSX 86, the card should work with Natit/NVInject but may need added info if it shows as a generic card depending on the version of NV Inject you are using. If that is the case, let me know. If you are using windows or Linux, download the Quadro drivers. I have never tried a converted card in Linux, so this will be interesting! Let me know how you get on anyway.

thanks for the quick return,
the burn worked without a problem, OSX finds it as Quadro 5600 and is using the Q5600 OpenGL renderer... so far so good...
a different picture under Linux: while the driver sees it as Quadro 5600 the additional features like the overlays are not available.. so no go here :-(
I dont know how the linux driver checks if the overlays are available, seems it dosn't just looks at the DevID.
Bummer
