Just have my new machine up and working, it's a gigabyte ds3r, w q6600. What I am trying to find which I have looked and looked but haven't any luck. I am trying to find a guide that uses the retail DVD (which I bought) and use that to get the system up. All of the how-to's that I have senn, even those labeled as Retail installs all use the kalaway dvd to boot and do stuff. I'd really like to try to do it without kalaway so I was wondering if anyone has seen a how to ala brazil mac method that you can use just the retail disk....Thanks in advanced.

Read through this thread, all 11 pages, it explains how to user the retail DVD to make your own. It is very straightforward. Click HereDownload V7.3 from here: V7.3 Files

Yeah I have been reading that and keeping up to date, the problem is that I don't have a working OSX environment to start with and I believe that is what is need to start with. Right now all i have is Linux and winbloz, that is what I have found with most methods, they want some kind of existing OSX environment either booting from a kalaway disk or otherwise...if I mis read that let me know. Thanks.

nope you havnt misread that... V7.3 is a Mac app as i understand it and to use that method you'll require a OSX enviroment.. I suggest you burn off the Kalyway disc (i know i know :-) ) do a basic install... then use V7.3 and your retail disc to create your own install.. Then use that on another Drive.
Hope that helps mate.

Yeah thats kind of my understanding, so I need an environment is there a stripped down version of kalaway or something small that will give me the build environment that I need?
