My fight continues .... I've installed GFX string following carefully your indications but my system hangs on during reboot (both with -v -f and -v -x flags).
The only way to restart the system is to delete the GFX string from the com.apple.boot.plist file or delete NVDAResman.kext.
I'm really hurt.

Aqua-mac thanks so much for everything you do, so far it's all been great for me. I just have one hangup. I've tried to get the gfx string to work and this is what i'm getting:
NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GTX DDL:
Chipset Model: NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GTX DDL Type: Display Bus: PCIe PCIe Lane Width: x16 VRAM (Total): 512 MB Vendor: NVIDIA (0x10de) Device ID: 0x0612 Revision ID: 0x00a2 ROM Revision: 3172a Displays: SyncMaster: Resolution: 1440 x 900 @ 75 Hz Depth: 32-bit Color Core Image: Software Main Display: Yes Mirror: Off Online: Yes Quartz Extreme: Not Supported Rotation: Supported X223W: Resolution: 1680 x 1050 @ 60 Hz Depth: 32-bit Color Core Image: Software Mirror: Off Online: Yes Quartz Extreme: Not Supported Rotation: Supported
here are my specs: intel core 2 quad p5k deluxe-wifi NVIDIA 9800 GTX 512
i ran Kalyway 10.5.2
I put <key>PciRoot(0x0)/Pci(0x1,0x0)/Pci(0x0,0x0)</key> in my in.plist file, which i downloaded from you. It was the 9800 GTX 512 version. I tried using the Nvinject and got no quartz or rotation support.
and i checked with openGL extensions viewer and it passed all the tests for both monitors connected to my one card.
any advice?

Hi, You will need the 10.5.2 Graphics update as the very minimum to run this card. But really you could do with upgrading to 10.5.5 plus my driver update HERE

Hi aquamac, and other senior macers,
I found this forum from inasanelymac. I just want to ask a couple of questions to you since you already helped some many peoples. I'm definitely new in mac and just built a machine with 9800GTX after searching the wiki and insanelymac forum. I did a lot of search and after struggling 3 weeks I'm almost hopeless.
OK, so here is my system:
EP45-ds3l 9800GTX Kaylway 10.5.2 DVD EFI v8
I'm using one HD now and first Partition is XP pro and second Partition is Leopard (make fat32 in xp and format into mac when installing Kaylway). Like others guys, the video card has QE, CI and rotation out of the box but with white menu. I tried all the ways on your post, everything, still no luck. Here are my some questions:
1, You said your way needs EFI v8, and Kaylway 10.5.2 DVD has EFI v8, so I should already install EFI v8 automatically. Is this correct?
2, It looks like I'm now using MBR scheme. Is there ANY way I can make my 9800GTX work under my current setting? Right now I just have one HD and I really need WinXP.
3, To make my 9800GTX work, is GUID scheme is a minimum requirement, which means I need to invest another HD just for Leopard?
4, What the hell does EFI V8 or chameleon mean here? If it refers to OS, the only way I can get it is buy a new HD and install with Guid. If it means a boot loader, I tried to download chameleon and install, still nothing happened and GFX string method still no working. Forgive me for my such simple, or maybe stupid questions. I did search the wiki and posts but still cannot get answers.
Thanks so much.

Then download EFI studio, select your card, then select save to plist. Reboot, and you should be fine.

But the latest version of EFI studio I can find does not include 9800GTX even.

I think PCWizz's OSX86 Tools does though - try that. Alternatively try the strings for 8800 GT, they are effectively the same.
Good Luck.
