no video signal

Hi, I finally assembled my Hackintosh ;D(temporarily housed in a PC case, I'm still preparing the Quicksilver case). Kalyway 10.5.1 installed without a glitch using PATA DVD drive and SATA hardrive. Used GUID and HFS+, installed Vanilla kernel, NVInject for my 6800GT card and Azalia out for sound. On boot, it showed the grey apple logo then signal disappeared. I thought it something to do with my videocard so I used the built-in VGA port. Still the same problem. Hmmm.... . I'm now browsing insanelymac for similar problems and solutions. Any ideas? Moreover, on BIOS, there is no choice for ACHI. Only AUTO, ENHANCED, COMBINATION and another one I forgot. I used all choices but the same problem occurs. Thanks a lot! I enjoy this Hackintosh!

MOBO: Gigabyte GA-945GCM-S2L
CPU: Core2Duo 2.4 GHz E4600
GPU: ASUS Nvidia N6800GT Extreme 256 MB DD3
RAM: Generic 2 x 1 GB DDR2 PC6400 (800 Mhz)
Optical Drive: Lite-On DVD DL drive (PATA)
Hardrive: 250 GB SATA (WD Apple OEM pulled from MacPro and Hitachi Desktar)

UPDATE:

It now works! nikonnut adviced me not to use NVinject so I did another installation using Kalyway DVD. I chose not to use all patches except boot efi guid to isolate the problem. Ethernet works without patches. No sound yet since I have to install the patch and my 6800GT is only seen as NVIDIA (0x10de). I will install NVinject later. I will install necessary patches one by one to see any incompatibilities. Special thanks to nikonnut! ;D

UPDATE AGAIN: Sound now works after installing AZALIA OUT and ALC883 package. YES!

Well done Kenji, lookin good!!!!! The 2.4 overclocks to 3.2 GHz easy peasy! Set your FSB to 356 and your ram to 2.4x, voltage to AUTO and you will have a rocket machine!!

Thanks aquamac I did try to overclock this from the BIOS , setting the CPU frequency to 266 from the default 200 so I got 3.2 Ghz (266x12) but the SATA drive cannot be seen by Disk Utility, so I went down to 250 and I got 3.0 GHz and everything went perfect ;D I will try your suggestion of setting the FSB and RAM tweaks.

One more thing, I manually placed NVinject kext version 0.2.0 downloaded from gotoh's site. I placed it in the extensions folder as instructed by gotoh. On reboot, there was an error message something like the file was not properly installed. What is the proper way to install that kext file? My 6800GT is like a submarine without torpedo

Kenji,
Drop your kext back into your extensions folder. Download this permissions script to your desktop. Double click it and enter your password. You will have to wait a while, up to 4 mins. You will probably get an error message and it will look like it is stuck on 20%, but don't worry, let it run it's course. When it has finished, close the terminal and navigate to System/Library and delete the file: Extensions.mkext. Wait for about 10 seconds and it will rebuild in front of your eyes.

You can now reboot and your permissions will be repaired.

Hey aquamac, I did what you've told me. Everything finished without errors. However, on reboot, the signal went-off again. Apple the grey Apple logo, the screen went black and the lamp on my monitor turned to orange from green. Hmmm..... do you think I need to replace my videocard?

UPDATE: I went to NVinject forum and found out that several users of 6800GT are having similar problem. No video signal on boot-up no matter what NVinject versioni they use. I guess it's time to get a new card. I need QE and Core Image to run Final Cut.

Yes, that black screen meant that NVInject was now being recognised, but was not supporting your card properly. Any idea what card you are going to get? How much ram did your video card have? Was it 512 mb?

I don't need rocket-powered videocard, just enough to run Final Cut would be fine so I'm planning to get the 7900GS 256 MB. Lots of this are floating around in auction sites ( I can no longer buy it new in stores). Any more suggestions?

Hi Kenji,

7 series cards generally work well with hackintoshes, so you are on the right track. Other good cards would be 7900 GT, 7900 GTX (I have a 512 and 256 mb for sale if you are interested). those are probably your best options as the cheaper 8 series at this stage has slightly flakey support. By the way, you did not say if your 6800 was a 256 or 512 mb?

I found a really cheap Galaxy 7600GS 256MB DDR3 128 bit with ZALMAN Cooler. Is this OK? Do you think NVinject can recognize this?

While looking for a replacement card for my uncooperative 6800GT, I pulled my MacPro's 7300GT and placed it in my Hijackintosh. Used NVinject 0.2.0 and yes, everything worked including Core Image and QE. Now I was able to install Final Cut Studio 2. ;D
I am temporarily using an old VGA monitor that's why the resolution was only 1024x768.

I finally got a replacement card for my 6800GT. It's a Galaxy 7600GS 256MB DDR3 with Zalman Cooler. Now full Core Image and QE support. Thanks aquamac and nikonnut! My Hackintosh is now almost complete. Just need to do surgery on my QS case. ;D
