Hello all, Just a quick heads up that Kalyways 10.5.1 is out. I can confirm that it works very well and requires almost no patching (sound and NVinject on my board) and includes a few extra goodies (Transmission, PPF-o-Matic, etc.) If you're itching to try before you buy (hint, hint) go and find it. I think you'll like it! Happy holidays everyone.

Nik, belated happy birthday.
Thanks for the heads up on the latest Leo installer release.
I finally bit the bullet and bought a retail copy of Leo yesterday. So in my twisted mind I feel I'm entitled to install it on the machine of my choice. I have it running on my iHack now.
As Carlsberg would say "Stop, this OS isn't ready yet..."
Well it may not be that bad, but it could be better. I've got rid of the 3D dock, replaced the folder icons, but is there anything that can be done with Stacks? Is there anyway to enable "list" view in place of "fan" or "grid" view.

I hear ritalin that they have something plan with the release next year to fix Stacks?

Rit, Thank you That means a lot. As for stacks I haven't gotten to play with Leo much yet as my old XP/new Leo HDD died a horrible death I know what that funny noise is now To the big box store! Hopefully I'll have more info soon. Nik

Sorry to hear about your HD, I had a similar thing happen to me back in August. Hope you haven't lost anything that was irreplaceable. I'm downloading kalyway now. I want to see how things have been implemented on the disc. I've made my own installer, but it isn't perfect.

Had a go at installing Kalyway last night, gets to 1 min to go then pops up a yellow triangle that says there was an error - please see your system administrator. Burnt 2 DVD's so it's not that. The interesting thing to note is that it boots perfectly from an IDE drive and has full ide support which means with motherboards like mine, you do not have to set the HD's to AHCI. Apparently this is speeding up hard disks.
I have removed the kexts from my aborted install and dropped them into my working install, and have got this to actually boot to the spinning wheel instead of the blinking cursor, but when using -v at boot I still get "waiting for root device". The other advantage, if I can get this to work is a shorter boot time.

Aqua, Sounds like the aborted install isn't installing the boot loader correctly (i.e. you just get the blinking cursor). If you can access the HD from a working system you can reinstall the boot loader. You should be able to do this booted from the kalyway DVD, but as I haven't finished downloading kalyway yet I can't be certain.

Hi Ritalin,
I wondered if it might be that, I went for GUID formatting as Kalyway gives you the option of this or MBR. I guess I could perhaps install the boot loader manually as you say. Will report back later as I need to give my son a hand to clean out his lovebirds!

I hear ritalin that they have something plan with the release next year to fix Stacks? Let's hope they do. In the mean time I have found this. I haven't tried this myself yet, but it sound like it could be okay.

Rit, No worries. Just an old XP drive that has been erased too many times I think. On the plus side being "forced" ;D to use tiger again shows me how much I like Leopard. Have you found where Kalyway is hiding the iamefi file? I'm not seeing it anywhere even with everything set to visable Aqua, Sorry to hear about your Kalyway woes. I'm not sure but it sounds like the only thing we are doing differently has to do with the boot format. I'm using MBR and haven't had a hickup. Think that something might be a bit off in the PC EFI implementation? Just a thought. Is their something I can dump out of terminal so we can compare notes? Just let me know. Edit: Turns out my HDD didn't die but that the drive was formated as a GUID partition and when I chose MBR on the install everything went down the toilet! So, it's all good now and yes, I do feel stupid (and I still have to find that rattle ) but I've got another HDD for XP now Nik P.S. I've also noticed that my Restart issues are gone.

I've finished DL'ing the a couple of leo installers
kalyway_leo_10.5.1.iso iATKOS_v1.0i.iso
I've also PPF'ed iATKOS_v1.0i.iso upto iATKOS_v1.0ir2.iso
Must admit I haven't actually used any of them to perform an instal at the mo, but looking at the implementation of the bootloader my fav is iATKOS_v1.0ir2.iso. Its just a shame it doesn't support GUID like the Kalyway. It doesn't look like it would be difficult to add, so maybe it will be in a future release. Another good thing about the iATKOS release is the size, it a nice and small DL at 2.09 gig. It seems somebody has put some effort into stripping PPC code (among other things) from the disc.

Well guys, I was itching to put Kalyway on a lappie (Dell XPS m1210) to see how it behaves and I can say that it was almost a painless as on my main Hack. I've only got one core right now but I think that can be sussed out fairly easily. Here's a pic of the twins ;D Same routine. Patch the sound (Big thank you to Taruga!), add NVinject 0.2.0 (Big thank you to Gotoh!) and you're good to go! Just thought I'd share. Cheers, Nik

If it helps anyone, i`m running Kalyway 10.5.1 on the following: Asrock 775i945gz (2.0 BIOS) Intel Pentium D920 2.8ghz (oc`d to 3.23ghz) 2gb Samsung DDR2-PC4300 ram Palit Nvidia 128mb 7300GT (full QE/CI with Natit v1 installer) 250gb Seagate SATA-II hard disk Cost to build... £90! Geekbench Result: 2300! Ran through the standard kalyway installer with a MBR formatted partition scheme and just selected MBR in the install options... I`ll stick some more details on if anyone requires them. This hackintosh has been 100% stable (even playing NFS Carbon at high settings) and doing alot of work in Adobe Lightroom with NO kernel panics or any other issues, oh audio worked fine when i stuck in the Azalia kext from JaS 10.4.8. Oh EFI is working fine aswell All Apple updates have worked so far, just waiting for 10.5.2 to really see if it`s ok cheers,
