Quick question...does anyone know where I can get the black plastic piece that sits underneath the PCI dual front fans?

Just a little update. It's slightly tidier, and I changed the CPU cooler for something more serious. (Akasa AK-CC017) Pretty good for the price. Seems my board have trouble applying overclock settings though, which is a shame... GA-G31M-ES2L It is very silent Also: internal audio headers are routed to the PCI brackets that holdes the USBs. (epoxy style) Still has to arrange an air guide and front fan mount. The original parts are just so freaking expensive. Might go for something in the style of the newest Mac Pro, single long sheet to separate CPU and GPU air flow. By the way: The hard rubber rectangle towards the front is for resting the Apple cooler I guess? Might just move it back in thet case..

Yeah, that hard rubber pad is just stuck on with strong double-sided tape and can be moved wherever you want. I removed mine. I think it was used for resting the CPU cooler.
On another note, I don't know how good you are with sleeving, but I'd definitely sleeve those power supply cables. I can't stand all that multi-colored stuff. It's looking really good though.

I agree about the sleeving, but I will make a plastic part to hold the front fans that will cover most of the cabels. When in the future I get a i7+ board, it should be close to touching the fan part. That way, less cables. I 'm still building up courage to solder the SATA slot in cable edit: the black rubber part is now cut in two, glued together and supports the CPU cooler. Feels better for the motherboard, the thing is over 700g.

Thanks for the tip, indeed if it's possible to get an existing power+sata combo to stay in the right place, it would make things easier. I'm live in Hong Kong now, and most of those I have seen are simple "combo" cables. I will keep your option in mind though; maybe I can get my hands on some alternative.

Here's mine. I actually spent like $30 to get the moldex pin connectors of which i ended up not using as crimping was so hard. I just went and cut portion of the wire cover close to end of the power cable extender but not the wire its-self and just wrapped the power wire that came from the FP and used shrink tubing to cover, then went and did the sleeving. I did not put sleeving on the power and led extended cable as they will be tucked away behind the MB. btw: the power extender was pre-sleeved, I didn't do that, which I hate because there's still big space of which the colored wires are exposed. I soldered the Apple SATA quick release to regular SATA connectors in order to use the HD bays to their full extent. The case is also tidier that way. Still misses the fan shroud that should cover most of the cable mess in the front. I have a picture of the cable on another camera, but it's not that interesting, it looks like the other hacks with shrink tube. Delicious strands... Counting preparation and soldering it took close to a day. It wasn't as difficult as I thought though. It doesn't really look that much better, but it is. The SATA cables will be easier to deal with when in the future I get a motherboard where they connect horizontally. Some re-arrangement of the CPU cooler part. It rests of a rubber block, and the two fans are PWM. Edit: SATA power connectors (between the PSU and the Apple quick release thing) are now tucked up beside under the DVD wall plate. On its way to tidy. Next: retry the font pannel USB and get a longer 24pin PSU extender to get it to lie flat when the area gets covered.

Thanks for sharing.
On another topic. Did you have to remove the front part cover of the dvd drive? It seems to be hitting the hinge of the dvd slot in the case. Thus the dvd drive tray is not coming out of the case. I really dont want to take the cover off as dust will go in quicker in the DVD.

I'm pretty sure you'll have to remove the cover, I had to do it for my old G5 mod aswell. I can't remember how Apple deals with it, especially that air for the PSU is sucked in around there. They probably have a slim custom drawer / front plate. Maybe you can dremel the front part if you have some margin before it uncovers the opening..
edit: There is at least a 2-3mm margin in front of the drive, it would be possible to stick a second face plate with an opening more or less flush for the drawer and the center piece on the drawer front..

Thanks for confirming. I'll probably just put some sort of thin foam around the open area to minimize dust going inside the dvd.
EDIT: I was in the mall on the weekend and got a change to pass by the apple store and looked at the MacPro demo machine, and confirmed that the real MacPro DVD has no face plate it was all dusty just right around the cover opening where the face plate cover sits.

Hey guys, I was working on the front panel audio again and wanted to see if anyone could help. I'd like some clarification as to what wire colors are what. I currently have the black wire (GND) going to pin 2 on the motherboard, brown wire (left channel) going to pin 9, and the purple wire (right channel?) going to pin 5. So far I have left channel working, but not the right. Any help is appreciated.

Hi BlackKnight, I'd be interested in whatever final wiring diagram you create out of this, I'd never wired up the front audio, wouldnt mind giving it a go.

Okay guys, It's been 5 months away getting a paint job (which ended up being a bargain as it took so long) and now its back, These photos are crap! doing it no justice at all! So here is what I'm doing. Asus Gene II X58, 930 i7 CPU. Two separate loops! (yup, TWO) Loop one is the same as the old but now cools the CPU and GPU only (which is why there are two new holes cut in the back). The second loop is a single 120.1 EK RAD side mounted in the front FAN bracket using a micro pump/res cooling the NB and MOSFETS. I have black 1/2" OD Tygon tubing for the second loop using MIPS blocks (nickel and POM) and Bitspower compression fittings. The first loop uses 1/2" ID Tygon clear tubing with Bitspower shiny silver compression fittings using Black coolant. the CPU block is the new EK HF Nickel and acrylic and the GPU (Asus 5870) is also cooled by a EK nickel and acrylic block. I've gone push and pull on the Thermochill PA120.3 (the rad has seen a re-spray too) and all 10 x 120mm fans are Scythe Typhoons. The PSU is Silverstone 1kw fully modular with a full MDPC sleeve kit. It's far from done, with all remaining components being ordered on pay day. The final result will be posted here first but you can find build logs over at Clunk.org.uk ... ... The bigger hole will have a removable cover made from a Mac Pro side door a perfect 7" square with the Apple Logo, using 4 thumb screws to remove it as it will stand about a half inch above the black case (same height as the WC fittings to its right). removing it gives me access to the back of the mobo (CPU, NB and MOSFET blocks). Like I said it's gonna take a while, but I've been planning and building this case for well over a year now. it's gonna rock! lol it's really no longer a Mac Pro but at the same time is unmistakably a Mac Pro. I've called it Project: symbiote as like venom it's as though the Original Apple case has been infected and the Symbiote has warped it's looks to enable it to survive. I'm not holding back on any aspect to this build, My goal is to see it chosen as a MDPC. J.
