Cool project you have started Aquamac. If I where building it, I think would refinish the case in black. I like the look of the black Macbook, and think a black Mac Pro would look just as sweet.
I've fancied building a hack in a Mac G4 Cube. Not that I need a new machine, I just enjoy a challenge. ;D
I should sell one of my machines to make way for a new project.

Thanks Ritalin, To be really cool, the thing to do would be a total strip down then have all parts anodized black. I think you are right, there is a untapped market there for black Apples! Just in case (no pun intended) anyone is interested, there is a mac pro case here on ebay. Is brand new but I think without a side panel!!

Hello aquamac, How did you attach the metallic "frame" at the back of the case ? I am trying for weeks now, but not happy of the result. It looks OK but not perfect as I would it to be.

Hi BB,
I used araldite adhesive, once thats gone off, there is nothing that is going to shift it. One other thing, I find that araldite rapid works much better than the standard araldite!

hey aquamac, how do you cut those aluminum grilles at the back of the MacPro? It's very clean! Do you use rotary blades or jigsaw with blades for metal or some other special tools?

Hi Kenji, Do you mean the aluminium extrusion that surrounds the PCIe/IO sockets? If you do, the way I did it was using a Mitre saw to get the 45 degree angles and cut by hand. Basically, just took my time.

Do you mean the aluminium extrusion that surrounds the PCIe/IO sockets? No, I mean the Mac Pro's original I/O panel. How did you remove that? The cut was very precise.

Thanks a lot aqua. I went on google and find in Belgium, a pro retailer who is selling a complete set for 60 euro. And finaly on ebay I ordered from Germany for 25 euro Araldite 2021 (fast one)

For cutting the metal accurately from the back this is the only tool you will want. It is called the dremel 300. I used the rotary cutting blade in the picture.

Hey Aquamac,
I posted a link for MacPro cases for sale on ebay, I've bought one and it should be with me tomorrow. you mentioned on the first page you'd post ur diagram for the powerbutton? i would love a copy of that. also was it difficult to find and fit a PSU to fit flush with the back of the MacPro case?
thanks for your help.
Joe.

Hi macbookjoe, The site with a good picture of the pinouts is down at the moment, it is here: www.zapro.dk/blog/?feed=rss2The usb cable is actually a sata cable soldered to a USB header cable. See Here: The PSU was really no problem to fit as all Std PC PSU's will fit. I fitted a 1000w PSU which actually was a bit of a problem as it is long front to back and had to remove the fan and housing at the top of the case - not recommended. Many cut fingers later, this really is a pig to remove. Better go for a short PSU if you can. I am currently away from home, but will have a look on my hackintosh as I am sure I have a pic of Zapro's pinout in my docs folder on that computer. If I have, I will post it up tomorrow evening.

Your a star, my MacPro case came today (i wasnt in!, so im picking it up at 7). I ordered the MacPro front fan parts (with housing) to cool on air whilst i slowly acquire the watercooling parts. Any pinout diagrams that can help with the powerswitch and front I/O plate would be a great help. I noticed your 24pin MOBO power cable has an extension on it? was it too short? just thinking if i should keep it in mind when i order mine. I'm looking at this PSU, what do you think? www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-016-HPReally just want an 800watt + PSU that is modular and that will fit with the most ease. around the £100 max budget. Thanks again. J.

I've just got back from picking up my case. its NICE! only one mark on it! and other then that its new! still has all the plastic sleeving over all the alu. Thought i'd post some pics. The photos were taken with my iPhone hence the crap quality! It really looks great but im full of questions now! Its packed with cables which can i remove? will my PSU fit flush with the plug hole on the back? how do i secure the PSU to the case. How will i wire up the the power button? I cant wait to find the answers! it wont be as flash as AquaMacs MacPro but i really want to do it to that level and standard. J.
