I recently just cleared out my system because if the original problems i was having with Tiger. Ok, fine, i still have 2 problems left.
1. Found out the strangedogs videocard was the main problem of me having blue screen freezes. I don't know how to fix that but if i go back to my Rage 128 card, it works fine.
2. Also, my ATA bus for my cd and zip drives doesn't show anything. Unless i reboot all the time, it never shows the drives. Now is this a hardware problem or a software problem?
How do i fix these problems?

I had this problem before after I trapped the IDE cable under the metal bracket that goes over the top and damaged it - sometimes the drives would show on reboot. Take it out & give it a thorough inspection or try another cable temporarily. Also check jumpers are set for cable select on both drives (CD & zip). Seems od that it would be a software problem.

Cable is fine, not pinched and the dvd drive is master and the zip is slave. i already checked these from the last time i pinched the cable. I think it might be this uni-n 3 board that might be the problem. Maybe it's time for me to go to a GE G4 and try that. Or just save up and get my QS. EDIT. Found out it was my ATA-3 bus that controls the cd drive. It just crapped out. It didn't show anything, just the 2 other ata bus' that i have. The main ATA and the expansion card. So i just plugged the cable into the expansion card with my slave hard drive and said f**k it to the cd bus. It's p**sing me off. Now to figure out what wrong with the strangedogs card. F**king blue screen freeze. I am going to corrupt my comp because the ammount of times i have to hit the reset button. First no color svideo and now this. This is very annoying. EDIT 2. well, for sure this is a problem. I should have 4, not 3. What's missing?

Yea I have a sawtooth too with uni-n 3 motherboard. It has been freezing at boot up ever since I made the boot drive a striped raid and put in a nvidia 5500. I have since erased the raid and reinstalled 10.4.9 and still random freezes after the the apple logo resulting in a blue screen for about three minutes then a kernel panic. So I think the sawtooth and the 5500 don't get along because that card was in my MDD for a month or two until I got a new DVI flat panel then the R 900 went back in. Thing is is the sawtooth once booted sleeps just fine and never crashes even when I play Starwars Battle Front on it for hours. So if yea can get your hands on another mac to put that 6200 in I would give that a test and use ur sawtooths boot drive to rule out the sawtooths motherboard.

Did the 6200 probs happen only after your re installation. Maybe Guitarmkndude is right, the striped raid array could be a problem, unless you are going to tell me you had a raid array on your last install and it did not give problems.

lol, yup. i had the same array on the old sawtooth board before it died. that had 10.4.8 on a uni-n 7 board. same specs and all, just different motherboard. now this most recent board, no problems when i had 10.4.8 installed. still using all the same hardware, just an older sawtooth board. now i upgrade to 4.9 of the mac os and now i have all these problems. should i go back to 10.4.8 and wait for leopard or what? like i said, no problems before 10.4.9

Thats a difficult call, I guess if you have the time you could re install, but you may be faced with the same problems again. 10.4.9 may be the problem with your card as all drivers were changed from 10.4.8.

Sorry if it was unclear but I still get the problem with out using the RAID and I tried today using the Radeon 9000 no problem, so I suspect if I make the raid a boot drive again it will work. So I think I may just live with the occasional reboot during initial startup and keep the 5500 in there for now.

Ok, i found out something. The video problems i had in 10.4.9 exist in 4.8 also. Decided to look into it. How do i fix the video card? Since that seems to be the culprit. The 6200 won't kick up all the time booting into OS X. Right now i am using my old Rage 128 card and that works without a problem. Everything else works, even the cd loads on startup now. But it's the video card. How do i fix that? Since it's a strangedogs card, can i just reflash it with the 6200 rom, or do i throw it out or what?

I suspect it is the revision #'s of our motherboards is the culprit I may just find a gigabit board on e-bay for cheep and swap it. Something I have read on strange dogs is to under-clock the card and see what that does. I have not done this because my card is already under-clocked. but you may get lucky. with the 6200 your lucky and don't have to re-flash it atri has written some software to do it for you. I think there are instructions on how to use it too, he also says it should work ok with any processor NVRM edits too. home.nyc.rr.com/arti/BIT-Speed3.1.zipI would read this thread too at SD. strangedogs.proboards40.com/index.cgi?board=experiments&action=display&thread=1162908783&page=1

Hmmm, if it's the mobo, then i might have to upgrade too. Since i would have to buy the board, PS and power-on board. That might be the problem since the card ran fine in a Rev 2. sawtooth. I now have a Rev 1. sawtooth so that might be it. Well, time to save $200 since the power supplies are not cheap.
