If you have any questions relating to OS X, post them here. Don't worry how simple they may seem, we will help if we can!

Hi aquamac, thank you for this fantastic site, I found it while looking for information on how to mod my newly purchased mac pro case. I bought a Gigabyte GA 33M-DS2R like your modded Mac pro because it fits easily, I have a 8800GT and will eventually put a quad core cpu in it, ram ect.
Just a quick question regarding osx86, which is the best version to use with this motherboard? I was hoping to use one that let me run system update and boot it up with out having to always have a boot cd. Any recommendations?
Thanks

Hi arti77 & welcome.
One of the best generic installs I have found is ideneb in one of the latest 10.5.5 or 10.5.6 formats although many are reliable nowadays. The 8800 GT should be fairly trouble free with either manual installation of GFX strings or use PCWiz's very useful OSX86 Tools to automate the installation of GFX strings.

Hi recorn, I am sure it would be possible. I cannot say for sure if ideneb would work, as with all things it is best to give it a go. You are going to have to install a patched kernel for sure with AMD - but you should find that on the ideneb disk. For the graphics card visit Netkas's site here and download ATYInit.kext and install this in your extensions folder with kexthelper b7. You will need to install patched Sata/ACPI too but should also find that on ideneb as you are using AMD. Good Luck.

What happens exactly, have you tried Booting with -v and reporting what the system says before it stops. Also you could boot trying -x which starts the system in safe mode and see if it will boot.

So what happens when you boot in verbose mode (hit return and type -v at boot). What is the last message before the system hangs?
