Ok, i'm planning on getting a G4 Digital Audio and i'm wondering if i can transfer my raid over to the new machine without reinstalling the OS. I have 10.4.8 on the raid now, i'm just wondering if this can be done? Plus, with the machine being a 466 or 533, can i use the original heatsink with the 1.4GHz sonnet chip i have and still have it not overheat? Oh, Aqua, you might like the monitor i might be getting with it.

I have 10.4.8 on the raid now, i'm just wondering if this can be done? I'm not sure about the RAID set-up but I used to transfer hardrives from Macs to Macs without the need to re-install the OS. The transfered hardrive showed up naturally in its new computer. This was on a G4 Digital Audio to Blue & White G3. The hardrive was using Sonnet ATA card so I transfered both the hardrive and Sonnet ATA card. My Digital Audio originally was 466 then I upgraded to 933 QS CPU. I used the original 466 heatsink with a little help from a metal saw to cut some portion of the heatsink that came in contact with some of the QS electronic parts and I never encountered overheating. I never used any fans at all. I think it would be better if you use the original 466 heatsink, slice-off some metal fins on top and place a fan.

I would say the transfer working is 50/50. To have any chance make sure you connect the HDD's to the same ports on your sata card as they are now otherwise it will not work. The best way is to boot from a firewire drive with your other drives attached to your sata card and then reset the startup disk in sys preferences. Good luck.
Yep those monitors have a coolness all of their own. Will become design classics in time. I have noticed them springing up on extremely expensive/trendy italian/german furniture exhibition stands already!

Steve, these are not sata drives. They are IDE based. My dual 80's were connected on the main IDE channel on the Sawtooth. I have yet to get my 500GB sata drives.

Oh OK, but the same still applies, there will be a a prob with tiger unless you connect in the same order as they were connected before with a raid setup.
Good luck.
