Let's wait until aquamac do his test, cause I cannot help, I have only two 1 Gig ram for the moment. But if I remember good when I had some 512 Mb sticks, you can combine any ram you want the system will see a max of 2 Gig .

Right Guys,
Here we go: MDD Memory:
1 gig + 1 gig = 2 gigs 1 gig + 1x512 + 1x512 = 2 Gigs 1 gig + 1x512 + 1x512 + 1x256 =1.75? (1 gig is seen as 512- take out the 256 and the total goes up to 2 gigs) 1 gig + 1 gig + 1 gig + 1 gig = 2 gigs (each 1 gig is seen as 512) 1 x256 + 1 gig + 1 gig = 1.75 gigs 1 gig + 1 gig + 1 gig = 1.75 gigs
Whatever combo I tried did not go over 2 gigs of ram. So we need to find out if it is the hardware instruction set or if OS X is programmed to max at 2 gigs of ram when it discovers a 32 bit G4.
Must dash as I need to fill up with petrol for tomorrow - out on the road again!
Back in an hour, catch you later.

That was great aquamac! Thank you for the effort even though the risk of messing up your hardware was there for shutting down the Mac more than once at a very short period of time to arrange the memory sticks in different configurations. Your test should be included in Apple Powermac MDD Technical Knowledge section. ;D Now, time to hunt for a bargain 1 gig sticks ;D

Hi, I found cheap 1 gig PC-2700 memory stick but it was labeled as REGISTERED/ECC. Is this different from regular PC-2700 stick? Can I use this in my MDD?The price is tempting. It is the same price as regular PC-3200 512 MB stick.

Same thing for the previous G4 limited @ 1,5 Gig ?

As far as I know, G4's need non ECC memory I'm afraid, unless someone else knows different.
