According to XLR8yourmac, the was a big stink about the latest update from apple not seeing all ram. I happen to recently be a victom of this. Now i don't know if they fixed the problem or what, but i bought 2 512MB sticks of ram but tiger only see's 1 512 and a 256. Is there anyway of fixing this problem, or am i SOL?

Every time Apple comes out with an update this problem seems to rear it's head. However have you tested the ram in another situation as I once bought a stick of 1GB ram only to find out the next day when I booted my computer that 512's worth were absent without leave. Back to the shop and an identical stick later & we were cooking again. Still using the replacement stick now. If Tiger has taken a dislike to your ram the the only way forward is probably back, back to 10.4.6 or hope for sense to prevail in 10.4.8!

I did buy the ram second hand but we saw it say 1 gig in a pc before we pulled it. both were saying 512's per, but now mac is saying single 512 and a 256. as for stepping back, nah, i'll just leave it for now. I have 1.12 gig installed via 512, 128, bad 512 (reported 256) and a 256.

If you can still boot in to OS 9, you might be able to use an old utility called DIMM First Aid: www.mactcp.org.nz/dimmfirstaid.htmlIt was originally developed in response to the infamous "lost RAM" incidents surrounding a Power Mac G4 firmware update a few years ago, but maybe it can help you here.

I think I am also a victim of this one. One of my 512 sticks (Princeton) in my FW800 suddenly disappeared from System Profiler. The other modules are working. I pulled out all the working memory modules and left the questionable one. I booted-up the Mac and I was greeted by a long beeping sound. So the memory module is defective. Pulled it out and tried it in my old PC box and what! it's working! Placed it back in my Mac and still no go! Hello Apple! Reinstalled Tiger and did not update and still no go! I'm not giving up yet.
