Looks like we ought to be prepared for some agro if we want to run Leo on systems of 800 MHz or less. Check it out here

Well, My Sawtooth can handle it, and i guess i need a cpu upgrade for my Quicksilver. Nice to see that apple lied about their OS. Didn't they quote "From G3 to Xeon, from MacBook to Xserve, there is just one Leopard."

Well, 800MHz or 867MHz, there goes the ebay resale value of my MDD!
I'll probably upgrade anyway on the MDD and 1GHz eMac just so I don't feel so bad about exploring Leopard on my Hack.
Haven't people used XPostFacto previously to get around this problem and install on older hardware?

XpostFacto was used to bypass certain hardware aka Firewire and USB for certain machines. This is the first OS for mac to actually look for CPU speed as an installer requirement. Meaning this will suck for alot of mac users. As for myself, thank god most of my machines are G4. I guess 10.6 when it does come out will drop G4's all together.

Hmm, I wonder what would make it "too slow"? Is just certain functions that are slower, or the whole operating system experience? Hmm, there goes my Bondi Blue iMac... Oh wait I'm running Linux on that... hehehe....
I wonder if they gonna support the G4 for any longer? I mean I was surprised when I tried to install Aperture on my Dual 1.8 when it said my system was not supported! So I bought another copy of Lightroom... which I'm starting like every time I use it, dunno if I like it better than Aperture, but I have no choice thanks to Apple. I guess it makes sense as less and less Applications are gonna be written for "older technology". I mean even the G5 is gonna be left in the cold at some point... too bad I bought a Quad! Oh Well! I'll use my hackie and start saving for a Mac Pro I guess. And I slow start bring my G4 offline... I got 3 of them, all in use.

Well here's dumb Leo question.
The latest rumor flying is that Leo won't look at processor speed but at the model to see if a particular G4 is "blacklisted" so... Any hope for folks (like me) that installed BootROM mods thru OS 9 (Hooray for the programmers button ;D ) like those that were included with Sonnets upgrades? Just curious if this would make a difference....
Kind Regards, Chris

My iBook G4 800 is at the end of its line. I tried installing Leopard build 599 and is a no go. Just keep popping out the DVD after a reboot and wouldn't even install or go to the installation page. Let's hope they bring out some really cool new macbooks that's being rumoured.

I'm back again. I know this is selfish on my part but I really wanted Leo not to run on at least 1 GHz G4. Why? so that the price of used Powermac G4 would drop like meteorites from the sky and I can buy an MDD again. ;D I already have a MacPro and MacBook but I can't do any mods on those computers. I miss putting those noisy fans on computers ;D
