I installed a downloaded copy of windows Vista RC1 last weekend onto winmac & was reasonably impressed, but, is's no Tiger beater. In fact there are a lot of areas where Microsoft must have studied Tiger, not least the Aero glass interface. If I am being honest, it is pretty similar to XP, but with an improved look. It also needs a pretty powerfull system to install on, winmac was fine here but I also tried it on a PC with a Radeon 9000 graphics card, and did not get the full aerolass translucent windows as the graphics card has to do quite a lot of the desktop rendering and must have pixel shader support. That system was very sluggish. However, once I had downloaded the nvidias drivers for winmac, this system with the Athlon 64/Gainward Bliss 7800GS 512 romped along. I used the 32 bit edition as I read on Toms Hardware that the 64 bit edition suffered from zilch driver support! So if you want to give it a go, go here: www.microsoft.com/windowsvista/getready/preview.mspx

I tried to install the Beta 2 that was out on a friends system, and he had a radeon 9200 se. Vista glitched out on that, but the biggest thing that ticked me off was that any antivirus software you have installed, it asked to uninstall it before it installs Vista. That was my biggest quirk.

Guess I didn't have that as it was a clean install. But the ATI drivers said minimum recomended card was a Radeon 9550. Looks like there will be a fair few PC's out there that will not run Vista without an upgrade.
