Is there any way to silence an 80mm fan in a power supply without compromising the CFM that it produces? The PS in my server B&W gets annoying when there is no other sound in the office other than that annoying hum coming from the PS. I took out the original 200W PS from the B&W and swapped it for the 237W from my G4. Not much of a boost, but other than going out, buying a new PS and modding it, what can i do? I have already used silicon washers on the screw mounts but that doesn't seem to be helping. Any more info regarding this would greatly be appreciated.

If it's a bit noisey, maybe replacing the fan is an option. I think it is a 2 wire fan in most Apple Power Supplies, but a 3 wire fan will do fine. Just cut the yellow wire off. There is a lot of variation in noise from one 80 mm fan to another, best to find a quiet one.

Alright, i shall do that. Thanks for the info. I'm sure there is some really quiet Panflo's out there that can do the job.

Well, i found out it wasn't the power supply that was so loud. it was the fan on the video card i have and to fix that, i just disconnected the fan. Still has a heatsink but it also sits in front of the 120mm fan in the case. Right now the server is very quiet. Now it's tolerable.
