Hey, I posted this on Strangedogs, but I didnt quite get my question answered, so I decided to post it here. I use a G4 FW800 with a radeon 9000 pro card. I have 2 ADC displays and a DVI to ADC adapter. More and more I find my computer lagging when i try to do exposé when a little bit of strain is being put on the computer i.e. an iMovie project is loading and i press F9. In addition, some green and purple pixels come up all over the screen. I know i should replace my graphics card, but which one should I get? I am a novice with a soldering iron, but i may be able to manage if i have to mod a card. I want something cheap, but I dont want to compromise performacnce that much. What should I do? Is there anywhere that I might be able to find a radeon 9700 OEM for under $150 thanks, zb edit: i found someone with a similar problem on the apple forums and he had a picture i37.photobucket.com/albums/e73/saikyan/picture1.jpg

This is generaly the effect of a fan going south, but, the 9000 does not have a fan so unless the heatsink is totally clogged with fluff, it looks like your card has had it.
On the subject of a new card, probably the card that fits into your price category best would be a 6600GT AGP. These work well with the MDD I am told and are about that price. You will want to be quick as they are getting rarer by the day but they also need a chip change. XFX do a Dual DVI card but I can't seem to find one anywhere. You would also need another DVI/ADC adapter.
Chances of finding a OEM 9700 are slim as they are extremely rare. you can still by them new at Apple palace but they are prohibitively expensive.
You may find a Fire GL X3 on ebay which is an easy flash & is a fantastic card but I think you would be lucky at that price. These are Dual DVI.
For MDD with it's strange layout that is about it really.

is the gf4 Ti a good card to use, and is the 6600GT AGP/DVI?

GeForce 4 Ti would be the easiest solution, but does not support core image, that does not make a lot of odds unless you want all the bells and whistles, like the ripple effect when opening dashboard. Apple/ATI 9600 is a good card to use, but needs substantial soldering mods to get ADC working as the power port does not line up with the socket on the logic board. If you are using in an MDD, you could use the MAC/PCI edition of the Dual DVI edition 9600 see here: ati.amd.com/products/Radeon9600/Radeon9600propcmac/index.htmlYou will need another DVI/ADC converter. If you contact Gotoh at strangedogs, he may do you a 6600GT, but finding the XFX dual DVI card is getting seriously difficult & ebay may be the only answer.
