Lol......
Thanks for the compliments Kenji, my wife says, while you have my barin, could you retune it to spend more time on housework & less time thinking of other ways to speed up computers!! Women, they just don't get it. Still, when I was younger I was constantly taking cars apart to "make them go faster", at least messing around with computers doesn't get everything covered in oil!

Hmm, interesting, Acording to the specs, this is a 20 pipe card that means it should be a G70, which is what you need if it is to be flashed to mac. G71 has 24 pipes and cannot be flashed. I have never seen one of these cards with this cooler system. This could be a new version of cooler fitted to these cards, Gainward after all show these coolers fitted to other 78's on their website & it would make sense to utilise standard parts. The only worry is if they are actually 24 pipe cards that have had 4 pipes disabled in the rom, in which case they would not be flashable. I am afraid it is suck it and see, but I suspect they may work. Gainwards site still shows the cooler system we all know: www.gainward.net/products/product.php?products_id=48In fact Gainward no longer show the 7800 GS (It shows the 7800 GS+) but they are still available in small quantities & won't be around for much longer. NOTICE ON THE BOX IT SAYS 256 MEMORY, IT SHOULD SAY 512MB!!

NOTICE ON THE BOX IT SAYS 256 MEMORY, IT SHOULD SAY 512MB!! I would guess the box is correct and it really is a 256MB card. The specs in the add are more likely to be wrong (the camera never lies). I think these are the real specs: Barcode: 471846200-8156 Product Name: BA7800GS-256-GS-TV-DD-GS Gainward BLISS7800GS AGP 256MB TV DUAL-DVI "GOLDEN-SAMPLE" 256Bit, 1,4NS CoreClk 450+MHz MemClk 1250+MHz, DirectX9.0c / Shader Model 3.0 CineFX 4.0, UltraShadow2 As to the number of pipes the card has, I don't know. However the original Bliss 7800GS 256MB (non golden sample) was a 16 pipe card, aka a real 7800GS. The Bliss 7800GS 512MB was a 20 pipe card and in actual fact a 7800GT. Gainward spoiled the fun with the introduction of the Bliss 7800GS+ 512MB which uses the 7900GT/G71 chip (no worky in a Mac). My guess, this is a G70 card and a safe bet.

Well next week I may place a bid on the same card different auction. Then I will take a look and see who I will send it to for flashing and the new rom for it. Too bad the rom is not public yet, I have been using a solder gun since I was 10 and could easily do it my self, but oh well. Ill gladly support the strangedog effort.

Well next week I may place a bid on the same card different auction. Good move, I never trust anything listed as shipping from Hong Kong on ebay, especially when the ad is riddled with inconstancies. Fit the 128K ROM yourself first and see if someone can PM you the ROM. Got to be a few in the wild by now. You may have to tweak the ROM a little but that shouldn't be to hard, even I could do that. Good luck.

Hey Ritalin, Any ideas on where to find the memory size &how to adjust it in the rom with regards to seeing all 512 megs. I'm busy cramming at the moment, OU Java exam at the end of the week. I'm willing to try and help once thats out the way, no promises though as I have zero experience with this card (if Arti couldn't crack it, what chance have I). You know its probably going to be no quicker if you get the full 512MB working. Things that would be useful if you can get them: 7685_Bliss7800GS_AGP_256MB ROM image or better still the 8156_Bliss7800GS__AGP_256MB_GS ROM image also the 7739_Bliss7800GS_AGP_512MB_GS ROM image and the original or modified Mac ROM used for the card. You would have to do all testing yourself as I don't own a 7800 and don't really need one.

Ritalin,
I will say that the Gainward 512 rom is a long way from the original 7800 GS 256 rom. The memory being faster/different needed another 45 attemps at changing to get things going. I did at one time think of using the Quadro 512 rom as I have this, and got it as far as a corrupted grey Apple screen on the Gainward. Had we continued work on this then all 512 may have been seen. It might be interesting for you to compare when you get time, to have a look at this and compare with the current Gainward working rom. Give me a shout when you have more time as it is always good to get a second opinion about these things. Testing is not a problem. I also had a 7900GS version of the card that I put a 128 kb chip on. DP asked if I could sent it to Arti, but that has gone very quiet recently.

Ritalin, I will say that the Gainward 512 rom is a long way from the original 7800 GS 256 rom. I guess you mean the GT ROM as Apple never released a GS, only a NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GT with 256MB of video memory and the NVIDIA Quadro FX 4500 with 512MB of video memory? I had thought the 2130 ROM might have been used, I believe it has support for the BRO2 chip. The Quadro ROM is an option, but you might take a performance hit depending on what you use the card for. If you can find them, I think comparing these two PC ROM images might help: 8156_Bliss7800GS_AGP_256MB_GS 7739_Bliss7800GS_AGP_512MB_GS I think they use the same 7800GT chip and are identical except for memory size.

No, I mean't the non Gainward 256 cards. These cards were developed first & then came the Gainward 512, although you are right, both were developed from the mac 7800GT rom. But they are now quite different roms from each other. When you said you think there may be a performance hit using the Quadro rom, is this because it is a 24 pipe card & the 512 is a 20 pipe? Although I have the PC rom for the 512 card, I do not have the rom from a PC 256 Gainward. But I have the rom from a XFX 7800GS 256.
