Hello everyone,
I'm encountering a lot of problems. If you could help me solve half of them, I would be very grateful. So far, at infinitemac, nobody has replied to my pleas.
First, my specs:
Asus P5Q Intelcore 2 Quad Q9300
Video: nVidia GeForce 9600 GSO
Sound: Realtek ALC1200
LAN: Atheros AR8121
I used the iPC 10.5.7 FINAL DVD to install Leopard on a partition of an external SATA HD.
On an intertnal HD I have a Windows XP home install.
Problems:
First time I tried to boot I ended up with the Boot0: error message. I activated my partition and tried again.
This time I was confronted with a succession of Boot0: done and Boot0: MBR flooding down the screen to infinity.
Next, I tried to at least get sound and LAN working and installed the following kexts.
Sound:
www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=161430
LAN: www.kexts.com/index.php?controller=download&kext=68&kid=159
Rebooted, but nothing changed. Still had no sound and no LAN.
Somebody at infinitemac told me to install Chameleon 2.0, although I think I had checked Chameleon when installing from iPC ( albeit, I have yet to see a Bootloader when booting...). I did this and rebooted, but I still got the Boot0: done and MBR thing.
Then, I saw some guide about installing Chameleon and I typed the following in Terminal.
sudo -s
fdisk -fboot0 -u -y /dev/rdisk1
I was supposed to type other stuff after that, but it failed there, saying that it could not find the partition or something.
Tried to reboot into windows, but I was blocked by a blinking cursor in the top left of the screen.
I inserted the Windows Home Edition CD and did FIXMBR and FIXBOOT which resolved the problem. I could once again boot Windows.
Out of curiosity, I tried to boot OS X from the external HD again, but this time I was met with a blinking cursor (!!!!). No Boot0:done and Boot0: MBR, just a blinking cursor at the top left of the black screen, just like before on Windows.
By the way, I have already posted under the GFX strings thread for help with my GeForce 9600 GSO, which I am trying to get working, as well. I also saw that you can add strings for ethernet? And sound? Would that help somehow with my Atheros AR8121 if the kext doesn't work? Or my Realtek ALC1200?
So, to summarize: I can still boot from DVD (with cpus=1 and rd=disk1s2), but any kexts that are supposed to work have failed to do so, so far, and I cannot boot from the external hard drive.
Please, please, help me. I've been reading and searching, but I don't see why the kexts aren't working, why Chameleon never worked ( I never saw an option to choose betwen Windows or OS X, I had to always press F8 to choose from where I wanted to boot) and why do I have this blinking cursor now!
