10.4.9 is out on software update. And even better news is it is running smoothly on my Hack Pro: That didn't take long to suss out. Interesting that it now shows the Quad as 2 x Core 2 Duo ;D

I used the 10.4.8 kernel , as far as I know the 10.4.9 is not done yet but I guess it will not be long.

I guess we need the source for Darwin 8.9 x86 to be released first. If thats out it will take no time to fix ;-)

Ritalin,
I have found 1 problem: Clicking the "mouse & keyboard" in sys preferences causes a Kernel panic. I have tried dropping various mouse and keyboard kexts from 10.4.8 in to various files as replacements but no joy yet. Any ideas?
Everything else seems hunky-dory!

I finally got brave enough to install 10.4.9 in one of my hacks. I'm using r3d3 and Darwin Kernel Version 8.9.1 No kernel panic clicking the "mouse & keyboard". Haven't had chance to test much anything else yet.

I've got the 8.9.1 kernel with auto detect FSB working on my system. I used the instructions posted here. So far the only problem is the "There was an error while gathering this information" message in Sys Profiler.

Only problem I have encountered is with bluetooth, this is a bit hit & miss and I can't get my wireless keyboard to work, although the mouse works OK. Maybe it is some D-Link incompatibility?

Yeah, I've always had problems with my Apple bluetooth mouse/keyboard. Even when I used it with my standard (ish) G5 they were unreliable. They sit in the cupboard and gather dust as a rule. I prefer to use an old clear/black USB set. I've got the D-Link dongle as well, it could be the weak link. Haven't tried bluetooth on 10.4.9 yet.

Finally got around to fixing the "There was an error while gathering this information" problem. I needed to modify the following file: /System/Library/SystemProfiler/SPPlatformReporter.spreporter/Contents/Resources/English.lproj/Localizable.strings I used "Colonel System Profiler Patch" as a guide.
