Hey Team!
My external Lacie drive died today taking with it all my movies, TV serries and a good chunk of my music! gutted!
So my house mate had a new Samsung SpinPoint F1 1tb drive which he hadnt used yet (still sealed) Delivery muckup they sent his order twice!
He let me have it (bless him) in an attempt to save what i could..
PROBLEM!
I took my hack apart fitted the Samsung SpinPoint F1 and booted...
It doesnt post! the drive spins up and makes a clunking noise like a ticking and my rig goes no further! :-( I removed the drive and all is well.. I tried 3 different SATA cables and used two different MOLEX and SATA power cables..
Doesnt matter where this drive is plugged in i get the same result!
I removed the jumper that had it set at 1.5gbs and still nothing..
Any ideas?
Its not so much a problem for me if its busted but a little harsh on my house mate.
pretty sure its a duff drive, but hoping you wizards may have a little magic.
BB i finally installed the Apple HDD connectors and they work great! so good job on that!

Hi Joe, If it is a light ticking noise you may not have enough current to power the drive up fully, if it that is the case it ticks during boot up which would confim the power. is the sata power 5v i have looked at some in the past and its been as low as 4.5 which is no alot but could be border line for some kit.

Cheers Kenmac, The thought crossed my mind.... but then i removed my other two harddrives and just tried booting from the F1... My 620watt PSU cant be fully used can it?
Is there anyway to tell if thats the case?

lol.... For a start... I'm a dumbass! :-p its not even a SpinPoint F1... its a Seagate Barracuda 1tb.. which confused me as i spec'd and built my house mates PC.. why did i pick the Seagate the Samsung drives are better and cheaper... Well it turns out other ppl have had the Seagates show similar problems.. I've RMA'd with Seagate..
