I am having some difficulty getting this working with a 9800m GTS 1GB.
I installed the 9000 series v2 driver, then followed the instructions here to update gfx strings. After the reboot, my screen resolution was dislpayed properly at 1920 x 1200, but qe/ci are not working. I ran the benchmarks in gl viewer and was seeing between 5 and 7 frames per second... this seems a TAD low to me.
I have really struggled with getting this OSX install up and running on my own with little help, so a little boost here would be appreciated. My original installation woes can be seen here: www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=147377 just so everyone knows I am not afraid to invest a little time in troubleshooting, or looking for a free handout. I am a Mac newb, but am really trying to learn the OS. Again any help is greatly appreciated and I thank you all in advance.
OK so this is a little bit odd, but I deleted all of the kext files for video (Nvida, Geforce, Intel GMA, everything I could find) repaired permissions, rebooted, and ran the open GL tests and was seeing between 12 - 15 fps. Not real great....
I redid the Gfxstrings from scratch using the 9800m GTS 1GB files and pasting my hex string, rebooted and reinstalled the nvida 9 series drivers v2, reran openGL tests and get from 4 - 8 fps... something seems drastically wrong here
Hello aquamac, tried your drivers on my GA-P35-DS3l (rev 2.0, with Geforce 9800GT 512mb), but with mixed results. im using IPCx86 10.5.6, with GUID/Efi 8, 4 GB RAM@800mhz, intel Quad email@example.com Ghz
Sometimes i loose the hw QE/etc while copying bigger files over the network, the screen is somehow unresponseable after 1 or 2 black frames flickered up (no mouse/no keyboard), then it switched back to the normal Framebuffer/no QE etc. Restarting solves the problem, until i start copying again.
System profiler text says: Chipsatz-Modell: NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT DDL Typ: Monitor Bus: PCIe PCIe-Lane-Breite: x16 VRAM (gesamt): 512 MB Hersteller: NVIDIA (0x10de) Geräte-ID: 0x0614 Versions-ID: 0x00a2 ROM-Version: 3172a Monitore: SDM-X72: Auflösung: 1280 x 1024 Farbtiefe: 32-Bit Farbe Core Image: Hardware-unterstützt Hauptmonitor: Ja Synchronisierung: Aus Eingeschaltet: Ja Quartz Extreme: Unterstützt Rotation: Unterstützt QuartzGL: Unterstützt Monitoranschluss: Status: Kein Monitor angeschlossen
Also, when hw acceleration is on, i see these kind of glitches quite often:
My drivers are only for 10.5.5. 10.5.6 should support your card natively so this may be your problem. Download 10.5.6 update and extract all the NV drivers NVDAResman and the openGL.framework and swap over (also repair kext permissions or run the script below) or reinstall the 10.5.6 combo update but you will have to save all the special kexts that make your system work.
ive done a new install on a second HD (always good) using UInstaller to apply the efi strings ---et voila (via custom nVidia) now it seems to work. at least no "black frame lockup", but the distortion is still there from time to time.
As it is no longer your drivers im a bit offtopic, sry. Anyway, after some nice hours of gaming (sauerbraten) it looks like my old friend the lockup is back. maybe related to some "handbrake" activity...this time i looked into the console (system log) and copied the relevant messages between the "hickups" my (little) hope is that you may have another hint for me noob?

;D After setting the string to an 8800 GT the "graphic channel time out" log entries stopped, still had these glitches. Then i used "NVkush" installer, which put the number of glitches to 10% of what i had before.
Still dont understand what happened, its like the card forget to redraw the screen or something. (only with text). I already used another of these 9800 GT, the same effect (very patient computer dealer next door, always returning "nonfittin parts", couldnt make the box without them
anyway, i just realize that the whole thing is not as easy as i thought, again thx for supporting.
Over the past few weeks I have been swapping graphics card between my Mac and windows Pc's I put my 9800 GT into the Mac Clone. As I was not happy with what I had grafted into my windows Pc I had to take it out. I am waiting for a replacment for the mac so I have put a 7 series card in there. without removing the fix v1. When I used the 7 series card with the standard drivers it would glitch lick mad when playing dvds graphics etc. But after putting the card in and not changing the config for the 9 series card the card runs perfect with no glitching Am I missing something here or is this Just fluke?
