I mostly run XP in a virtual machine so I can't decide if I should 'stop being a smart ass'. If not then I hit 'wait until you win the lottery', which isn't going to happen! No Vista for me then ;D

Ritalin, Slightly off topic here, but, Did Nvidia EFI help at all with your booting? There is now version 1.02 out but it still is not working with 512 cards. Worth keeping an eye on though if you had not seen it already.

Sorry, I didn't get round to trying Nvidia EFI. Suffering inertia as Natit was working fine so I didn't want to rock the boat. I imagine I will try this soon as I've nearly cleared my back log of old hardware, at which point I will probably swap my 6200 for something a tad quicker. Maybe a 7600GT, prices should drop when we see mid range 8 series cards released.
Did you get the the 512MB card recognized as a 256MB unit?

No, I didn't get the 7900 GTX 512 card seen as a 256 card, but in the end bought a 7800 GTX 256 off ebay and returned the 7900 GS that I borrowed. I will hang on to the 7900 GTX for now to see if the 512 barrier can be broken and if not, I will put it on ebay. 10.4.9 certainly seems a long time coming. Do you know what has to be done to the package to work on a hackintosh?

No not really… I decided to wait until 10.4.9 was finished before trying anything. If I remember correctly they are some instructions with the 10.4.9 patched kernel that tell you what needs to be done (just keep a few kexts from the JaS install I think). Plus the version I saw supposedly required an “R2D2” type kext which decrypts Apples- protected binaries on the fly. Don't know were you would get that; if you find it PM me. The 10.4.8 kernels on the JaS DVD have this decryption built in. If you download the legal source for Semthex kernel you can see this code is disabled but still quite visible.

Don't know if this is still the case as I haven't been following progress: You need R3D3 from the hacked leo install. R3D3 is the updated version of R2D2. Problem is R3D3 is 32bit only so on new procs like C2D you need to run in legacy mode. I got this info from InsanelyMac. I guess you would need to talk to the guys a #leo and #1049 on macspeak IRC for info. Here is info on Apples Binary Protection.

Well, that was an interesting read, thanks Ritalin, I guess it isn't worth monkeying around with 10.4.9 untill the proper version is out. I don't think it will be too much longer anyway. Did you download the recent updates from software update? (Java 5, security update & daylight time changes). I did, but haven't noticed any real probs.

Just downloading now. What's all this talk of "daylight saving time updates", has there been a slip in the space time continuum
