I have seen on the web guys who have used the OEM on their Mac Pro cases with their PC mobo. My question is how is this done and are the parts needed for the adaptation readily available and inexpensive.

Thanks for the 411 but I was inquiring about the use of the OEM ports on the back of the Mac Pro Case. I saw some guys where able to fabricate cables that didn't require the cutting of the rear panel to get to the I/O ports of their motherboard.

Yeah, I've seen G5's hooked up like that.. I heard of a couple guys thinking of doing it on the MacPro.. you'd need to buy the ports... remove your motherboards ports and then attach and solder them up. But i bet your knew that... I've not seen the finished products.
would be great if you did it.

Where can you get those cables? Are they different for each mob port or do you need to a lot of cutting and soldering.

Will give you the seller's infos later cause I cannot access the insanelymac site now. You can buy this kind of ports with cables to connect to the mobo for USB, Firewire, For audio there are cables with males-females connectors, for the front panel I soldered the Apple cables to USB Audio and Firewire cables like above from which I cut the connectors. The USB and Firewire are standard on the mobo's , the audio can differ, you have to refer to you mobo manual to have the connectors sheet.

The site is again accessible . Here some infos : 1) May 8 2008, 12:58 AM Post #30 olinboy1 QUOTE(TorqueX86 @ May 2 2008, 08:45 AM) * Don't rape it! It's perfectly doable. Here are my sources: USB = searched for "usb receptacles" on ebay, got 20 for $10, brand new. Firewire = cannibalised an old card. FW800 = as per pics Audio and Digital audio: eBay, search for "jack monoral female" for the digital and "jack stereo female" for the audio LAN = Cannibalised some broken USB to LAN cards, they were small and tight enough for the deed. The ports are mounted on a custom made aluminium frame. USe your dremel on that! biggrin.gif end of QUOTE Thanks for the info! I also found a site that has some interesting components that could be useful to others www.cypressindustries.com/2) The picture of the cable above comes from this site3) Oneother dealer : www.datapro.net/

Hey bb, With the front panel firewire.. can you do it the same as the USB? using an internal FW header? i thought it required a PCI card? J.

Yes I did it, soldered the Front panel Apple wires to the cables I cut out first the Firewire connectors and plug onto the mobo with the header connector pins.

OK bb it seems like you have already accomplished using the OEM ports on a Mac Pro case with your PC mobo. Is this task for an expert in electronics or could a novice like myself accomplish it. Also can you show some pics of your mod's use of these cables ?Thanks in advance

I answered the question because it was asked here, but I use a G5 case. So I am talking about the G5 case front panel. Concerning the MacPro case, aqua gave a beauty diagram of the front panel and how to connect the USB and Firewire 400 and 800 from the Mac Pro case. Will give the link later, I have to look for it. edit : I found it; reply 108 from the linkFront panel Mac Pro : first diagram : Start up board (power board) and Firewire connections. second diagram : Front panel USB connections. I will use aqua's dia for my Pro case, housing the LCS, to start the pump and to activate extras USB and Firewire ports .
