Well, I got 10.5.6 working by just upgrading this system from 10.5.5. As shown on other forums, you do not need DSDT.aml to get 10.5.6 going. I deleted the boot file at the root of my Drive icon and replaced with Netkas EFI 9 boot, reinstalled my important kexts and it worked. deometrus, The com.apple.boot.plist is the one that needs to be changed to get strings working. moonbuggy, The info that is shown when you boot tells me that chameleon is starting to boot, but that it does not complete. You must have done something wrong. This does work, print out the walkthrough, then slowly go through each part. Did enter your raid uuid no into your com.apple.boot.plist at the right point? Did you enter chameleon info correctly for the amount of hard disks? I'd go back over it again and give things another go - you will get there in the end. Good Luck. So i'm assuming you just updated your system in sofware update? And the chameleon files we inserted here won't work with 10.5.6? And is there an option where you can show hidden files anywhere? I've never been able to edit my boot files outside of terminal which makes the whole v9 of efi thing hard to me.

Hi Jaev, Don't use software update, download the smaller update from the Apple site. To show hidden files, download the free program "Show&Hide" The Chamelion files we are using are fine - I did not need to touch them. Show&Hide

That's right, but you will need to save any special sound kexts or any other kexts (AppleSMBios.kext) your system needs to run and reinstall them. Also make sure you have Disabler.kext for AppleIntelPowermanagement.kext, dsmos.kext OR AppleDecrypt.kext and in your extensions folder. Also you will need to be able to run the vanilla mach_kernel, although most modern systems seem OK with this.
Good Luck!

Had to fix the orange disk issue with AHCI after the update but other than that with your instructions all went well. I am however getting a weird flash right before my login window kicks in but all is well. Thanks again

Has anyone gotten a software raid to work using this method with the Boot-132 loader ? Wondering this myself, as I've not been able to get it to work either bump, any updates.. I have to downgrade back to efi, will I lose dsdt.aml support and gfxstrings?

GFX strings will work fine, though dsdt.aml won't work but that is no biggie anyway. My system is working with 4 raided hard disks, 2 x 9800 GTX's with GFX strings and 10.5.6.

What Bios do you have? I could do a bios edit for your .aml pending. Some I can't do, not many though. I have the most trouble out of nVida MB though. if your using 10.5.5 still, I might have your bios done already on my website, if your using 10.5.6 other changes will need to be done, which I currently working on adding bios support to the site. My mb is msi P6N SLI V2 ms-7346 global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=bios&maincat_no=1&prod_no=1169 (bios) I tried the dsdt patch, but it missed removing the "cpu1 alias" (bug) stuff so I had to remove it manually. but after I got other problems with cpus=2 (ie: freezing when booting, waiting for root device) ... but it does not happen (everything ok) with cpus=1 I am not sure if your patched bios will help or make the cpus=2 problem worse? right now I am back to cpus=1 I am going to try to raid 0 boot with nforceata from medevil, but it does not support NCQ. Has anyone tried to raid IDE and SATA boot drives together? Is there an app that will graph the sequential read speed like in hdtach for windows? also hddscan 3.1 program for mac.. thanks also how do you repair permissions on the raid drive? thanks

Repairing permissions on a raid drive is exactly the same as for when repairing a normal drive.

freezing when booting, waiting for root device is not due to the DSDT problem, I'll take a look at your Bios, If I see any errors I'll fix and Post it here for you, Should be a easy fix, I've done many of these. -OMN *EDIT* here is the link for your Bios. It's also Pre-Fixed For 10.5.6 enjoy, -OMN rapidshare.com/files/191196761/msi_P6N_SLI_V2_ms-7346.zip.htmlMy mb is msi P6N SLI V2 ms-7346 global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=bios&maincat_no=1&prod_no=1169 (bios) I tried the dsdt patch, but it missed removing the "cpu1 alias" (bug) stuff so I had to remove it manually. but after I got other problems with cpus=2 (ie: freezing when booting, waiting for root device) ... but it does not happen (everything ok) with cpus=1 I am not sure if your patched bios will help or make the cpus=2 problem worse? right now I am back to cpus=1 I am going to try to raid 0 boot with nforceata from medevil, but it does not support NCQ. ok, thanks for the bios, I had 1.3 installed and installed the 1.4 successfully. (if it was 1.4 to 1.4 maybe it won't allow update)
got the softraid working, but with the uuid and not raid uuid.. anyway will leave it at that for now. it is easier method than copying bootsect.S and /extra/ and 1G partition.
before the softraid was stuck at the "10000 buffers" part before the ioapic, the bios flash fixed it. but cpus=2 still stuck at com.apple.iwan... maybe its related to the voodoo 9.5.0 kernel on 10.5.6.. will use cpus=1 for now till voodoo releases 9.6.0
as to permissions... sometimes the check permission is grayed out, and sometimes not.. don't know why but its ok not big deal.
just dual 6600gt and 7300le (different) video card not work. get black screen. but will fix that later. thanks for both of your help

Can you PM me? I'll help, but don't want to cloud the posts by getting Off topic in here. 1 last question, why are you using Voodoo? You should be able to use the Vanilla Kernel with my Bios Patch. Just send me a Hardware Spec. detail, and we'll get this solve, or moslty anyways for you.

Aqua,
I'm using your info with the Chameleon files to get iDeneb 10.5.5 onto a 4 TB raid (1TB x4). Everything works flawlessly.
I'm looking to upgrade to 10.5.6 and am wondering if you had success upgrading to 10.5.6? Will your chameleon files linked in the first post work the same way with 10.5.6?

Yes, I did upgrade to 10.5.6 OK and I also with 4 x Samsung 1 TB drives. Here is what I did:
1. Download the 600 meg 10.5.6 combo update from Apple.
2. Back up your 10.5.5 to an external USB drive and make it bootable with Std Chameleon files.
3. Boot to the USB drive and update your raid setup to 10.5.6.
4. Drag your needed kexts for your setup from the USB drive back to the extensions folder on your raid setup.
5. Repair your kext permissions on your raid setup
6. Boot back to your raid setup which will now be 10.5.6.
