Very good thread. Following the instructions in the original post I was easily able to get my 2 NVIDIA cards to boot and spread my desktop across 4 monitors, but *without* QE acceleration. I'm using a 7800 GT and an 8800 GT. The 8800 GT has 512 MB of ram and the 7800 GT has 256 MB. I'm running Kalyway 10.5.5 with the ToH 9.5 kernel. Motherboard is gigabyte GA-EP45-DS3R Anyways, if I install just one card at a time, they still do not work with QE acceleration. Both cards at once, same thing. The only way I can get QE acceleration to work is if I use NVInject 0.2.1 (latest version). The problem with that is that both cards do not work at the same time. It doesn't boot (hangs at loginwindow which it seems is very common). Hey tayl0r !! I just bought the same mobo that you have ( GA EP45 DS3) and when I have applied the method posted here I have got the same results as you...hanging just before login with no success knowing that this board supports dual cards from peoples posts I went over the entire process again and I have found where I made a mistake..... !!!!Do not use the gfx strings from the EFI Studio!!!!! .... if you check the first post of this thread you would see that in Aquamac's plist there are 21 entries for the nvidia display string but the strings that EFI Studio is using only has 13 entries ... so obviously the EFI Studio strings are missing some entries necessary to run two cards... So what I did to fix it was : * change the entries for the nvdia strings (did not touch to the pci device paths I have previously found with EFI Studio) with the ones from Aquamac's in my device properties plist file * then convert the plist in to hex ( gfxutil ,osx86 tools or EFI Studio which ever you use) * insert the hex string in my com.apple.Boot.plist file * repair permissions ( if necessary ) when I have restarted the system it again hung before login window...so I went in to the bios and select my primary display as PEG2 and it works like a charm now....... ;D I´m running on 10.5.5 vanilla kernel v 9.5.0 installed from Retail Apple 10.5 DVD with Chameleon EFI I don`t use any injectors for display just the strings and 2 Nvidia cards (8500 GT and 7600 GS) and QE/CI works fine for both cards Good luck...

I just built a setup with two 8800GT's and the GIGABYTE P45-DQ6 motherboard. And I also had to enable PEG2 in my BIOS to make my cards work.
Perhaps this should be added to the setup guide?

deomitrus,
Yes this must be done on Gigabyte boards. I just set up the same board as you with 2x 8800 GT's flashed to Quadro FX 3700's and had to set the bios to PEG2. I have suggested this in a number of posts and it is also true of 9800 GX2 (It only works in slot 2 on Asus boards) however it will not work on Gigabyte boards period!
I will add this info to the walkthrough.
Update: Done.

Well, it does not work in the X48-DQ6, that is for sure. I tried every which way but it is no go. Works in Asus boards though.

Hi there, aquamac! Thanks for the guide, very good guide.
But I have a problem: I'm trying to install two EVGA 8600 GTS (256Mb each) on a P5w DH DELUXE motherboard (running Leo4allv3 + JaS UpdateCombo 10.5.3).
I did everything you said in the first page... but then, I have only a crap resolution, no QE/CI and also no signal in the 2nd and 2rd monitors (only the 1st one works)... during the process, I deleted the NVinject and all kexts related to Geforce video drivers, because I was getting a Kernel Panic when booting with both video cards.
What should I do? Which kext don't "conflict" with GFX strings??
Thanks and sorry for the bad english AHSF

Hi AHSF, You should only have deleted NVInject. You still need all the NVIDIA related kexts. I hope you still have them, they will need to be dropped back into your extensions folder, and the permissions must be repaired by double clicking this, homepage.mac.com/steve.smedley/.Public/permissions.command.zipor reinstall the update. If it did not work then there was something wrong with your strings.

Thanks a lot for your help and congratulations for the good job you're doing here!

Hey,
Great news, really glad it worked. So are you now on 10.5.3?

Where / how do I get a plist that is similar to that which is in the first post?
I can then hack from there... maybe...

I just set up the same board as you with 2x 8800 GT's flashed to Quadro FX 3700's This is a somewhat unrelated question to GFX strings, but I noticed you said you flashed the 8800GT's to Quadro FX. Well I'm wondering if I could do that to my cards, and be able to use CUDA accelerated graphics. For example, Adobe Premiere Pro uses CUDA acceleration for rendering. The trick is that it only works on Quadro FX cards. Will flashing my cards trick the computer and make it work? Any ideas?

HI Guys, thank you so much for this interesting thread! Sadly I am stuck for days now and finally decided to post as I am desperate to get this working: About: Mac 10.5.5, Kalyway 10.5.2 (Regular Apple Updates), Vanilla Kernel, Chameleon EFI Graphic Cards: Gigabyte Nvidia 9500GT DDR3 512MB | Gigabyte Nvidua 8600GT 256 MB MoBo: Gigabyte GA-P35-DS4 Problem: I followed the tutorial to 100%, installed the main card 8600GT in the second slot and boot with PEG2 enabled, the Mac accepts the Card with QE and so on enabled. All fine. Though the second card (9500 GT), works alone all fine, it is not recognized when used as second card. In "System Profiler" it is simply shown as: "Display", Type:Display; Bus: PCIe; PCIe Lane Width:x16; Vendor: Nvidia(0x10de); Device ID:0x0640; Revision: 0x00a1. If I plug it in alone, it is properly recognized as specified in the Plist. Also if I exchange the cards, using the 9500GT as main, then the 8600GT is not recognized. I repeated the tutorial several times, deleted whatever Nvinject extensions where on the computer, repaired permissions, deleted the extensions cache, but nothing seems to help. Can someone help me out here please? Cheers, Markus
