I was just curious if anyone knew a way i could run Softimage or Maya 2008 on it. I've looked at vmware Fusion, Crossover, Parallels, and its either one thing or another that comes up.
These software types also have a linux version. Could I use bootcamp to run two os's?
Does anyone know any good mods i can do to my system?
I heard that you could install nvidia cards and it should work? Is that true or do i actually have to buy one thats from apple?
( I don't know much about moding osx or what i can and can't do with my mac pro )

Autodesk makes a Mac version of Maya which I have running my Quad G5 and works for the most part, although there's some annoying bugs that aren't on the PC version. Honestly, I dunno when they are gonna fix them...So that why I also have the Windows version running on my Hackintosh... I tried VMware and Parallels with Rhino and Maya and you better off running both Maya and Sofimage using 'boot camp' if you want the best response and render time. Maya and Softimage needs all the CPU and GPU they can get,-- they need as much as RAM as the can get too! When you run Windows in boot camp you basically turn you mac into a PC. When you using virtualization the computer has the share it's resources with two operating systems and the computer also need do some emulation as well to host the other operating system so they can share other resources like USB ports, etc, etc... and of course you have limited RAM when you are running a virtual machine. I dunno if anyone has a 'hacked' a nvidia pc card to work on a Mac Pro only on Hackintoshes... if you don't want to a hack a pc card, then I'd get one from Apple. The best bang for the buck is 8800... And well the Quadras are the fastest for Open GL... they are very costly.... We have a real 5500 Quadra with SDI option at work it cost us 3000 bucks.... yikes.... Good luck!

my System Specs.:. Two 3.0GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon (8-core) 4GB (4 x 1GB) (upgrading to 16GB soon) ;p 320GB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb/s SAMSUNG Spinpoint F1 HD103UJ 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb SAMSUNG Spinpoint F1 HD103UJ 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT 512MB (Two dual-link DVI) Apple Cinema HD Display (23" flat panel) Apple Cinema HD Display (23" flat panel) One 16x SuperDrive AirPort Extreme card (Wi-Fi) Apple wireless Mighty Mouse Apple Wireless Keyboard (English) + User's Guide
I might aswell buy two Samsung or Segate drives. The Samsung hd103uj Spinpoint F1 1TB 7200RPM's are pretty sweet. It takes advantage of 3 plate system instead of the usual 4 or 5. I was also thinking of buying more ram. Is it okay to mix ram? Say I purchase 3rd party fb-dimms and mix it with the ones supplied by Apple when the machine was purchased. Will it make a difference because of brand or aslong as its paired up amount of so and so GB's of ram I'll be fine?
I was thinking of installing Linux and running it off another drive all together. Then running Maya 2008 Extended 2 and Softimage XSI off of that. Would I be able to with/o having to run it virtually. I mean during bootup be able to select what to run as if i owned a pc and i was dual booting that...

I like your setup gizmatix, Do you happen to know if the Wireless bluetooth keyboard and mouse works with a hackintosh? I am thinking of going wireless as well.
Thanks

Aquamac, thanks its great to be here. The bluetooth keyboard and mouse is great! I haven't seen any lagging from it and the fact that the mouse doesn't use red inferred light is pretty trippy. I'm still thinking of possibly buying a MX mouse just because i like the feel to it when your holding it. The mighty mouse is alittle flat, would be nice to have alittle more curve to it (maybe its just me)...
Still to come: Rack Setup - Linksys WRT600N Dual-Band Wireless-N Gigabit Router with Storage Link - Maxtor OneTouch 4 Plus 1TB (networked via usb on the router) - [4] Barebone Rack Servers / Renderfarm setup (assist for mentalray)

shaanky98, I'm pretty new to the hackintosh scene so i don't really have a clue at this point, sorry. ;/

gizmatix,
I use a Logitech Revolution MX. This mouse is great, especially the scroll wheel, which when set to freewheel, whips though documents, thoroughly recommended.
Shanky69,
I am using the new bluetooth keyboard with my hackintosh, no problems, but for reliable compatibility, you will need the Apple recommended D-Link dongle. I tried 3 others and had mixed results, with it cutting out etc. The D-Link works 100% and has the same onboard chip as the Apple built in bluetooth micro boards.

Thanks Aquamac for the info I guess I will try the D-Link dongle. At least I know that the wireless keyboard and mouse is going to work with my Hack Pro.

I have access to military shipping and so the price would be around 50.00 to ship the monitor. ;P
It's pretty much brand new it still has the protective covers, box, manuals, etc. Not even a hint of dust and I didn't stress the brightness or mess with any of the settings. If I do plan to sell it I'd have to sell for 700.00 I paid in advance Apple Care for my system and both monitors. I still have to ask if it will transfer over to the new buyer.
