Thanks aqua. maybe i got my geforce numbers wrong, but it's showing Quadro FX 3500 in profiler. was it 7600 that converted to the 3500? In any case, if you have the string for 3500, it'd be great!

Hey guys,
I finally was able to download the documents from rapidshare, however i seem to be running into some issues.
I did everything within the tutorial but when i rebooted my laptop, i seem to be getting a black screen when booting into OSX. I am currently booting five different operating systems (windows seven, leopard, ubuntu, fedora, and backtrack). When i boot into ubuntu i can see the leopard directory, and get to the /library/preferences/systemconfiguration/ directory, but i cant seem to replace the apple.boot.plist file to revert to the old file, as the directory is read-only (even as root).
Is there any way for me to revert back to the original apple.boot.plist file without formating and reloading OSX? Is there anything you guys see wrong with my apple.boot.plist file?

Also, here is the in.plist file which was left on my desktop (after i received the out.hex file, i did nothing with this file....)
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd"> <plist version="1.0"> <dict> <key>PciRoot(0x0)/Pci(0x1,0x0)/Pci(0x0,0x0)</key> <dict> <key>@0,compatible</key> <string>NVDA,NVMac</string> <key>@0,device_type</key> <string>display</string> <key>@0,name</key> <string>NVDA,Display-A</string> <key>@1,compatible</key> <string>NVDA,NVMac</string> <key>@1,device_type</key> <string>display</string> <key>@1,name</key> <string>NVDA,Display-B</string> <key>@2,#adress-cells</key> <string>0x01000000</string> <key>@2,#size-cells</key> <string>0x00000000</string> <key>@2,compatible</key> <string>NVDA,sensor-parent</string> <key>@2,device_type</key> <string>NVDA,gpu-diode</string> <key>@2,hwctrl-params-version</key> <string>0x02000000</string> <key>@2,hwsensor-params-version</key> <string>0x02000000</string> <key>@2,name</key> <string>sensor-parent</string> <key>@2,reg</key> <string>0x02000000</string> <key>NVCAP</key> <data>BAAAAAAAAwAMAAAAAAAABwAAAAA=</data> <key>NVPM</key> <data>AQAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA==</data> <key>VRAM,totalsize</key> <data>AAAAIA==</data> <key>device_type</key> <string>NVDA,GeForce</string> <key>model</key> <string>NVIDIA GeForce 9700M GT DDL</string> <key>name</key> <string>NVDA,Parent</string> <key>rom-revision</key> <string>3172a</string> </dict> </dict> </plist>
I did not do anything with the vram, as i thought the .plist files which were supplied within the first post had the necessary changes already done, please let me know if i am wrong.
I am trying to get this working on my Asus G50vm-x1 laptop which has a Nvidia 9700M GT video card.
Any help is GREATLY appreciated!
Thanks, Ben

Did you insert your own PCI address at the top of the in.plist? To reboot, if you have linux and can see OSX, you may be able to drag your com.apple.boot.plist to your linux desktop and delete the actual string from it, then overwrite the original.

Aqua, thanks for the fast reply!
Yes i did insert my PCI address into the top of the in.plist file prior to executing the script to get the hex output.
I am able to get the copy of the apple.boot.plist file off of the leopard directory, however, i cant seem to write anything to the directory, as it is read-only (even when i log in as root within linux).
Re-formatting my OSX partition wouldn't be the end of the world, but if it is possible to avoid that would be nice.
Could it be because i have OSX 10.5.8 installed?
Also, i do not have any Nvidia injector kext files installed (i.e. nvinject, nvdarwin, etc.). I have previously attempted to install nvinject, but at boot it also gave me a black screen.
Thanks again, Ben

Chapps, You need to use the Generic in.plist at the top of the list at the beginning of this thread and change the name of the card to whatever you want in the in.plist. killans31, You need to do this with a second OSX install and drag the com.apple.boot.plist to the desktop, correct it then overwrite the original.

Cards over 1024 mb will not show up properly in OSX as far as I am aware as yet. I think this is an Apple driver problem. I am sure it will be corrected when Apple release a card that has 2048 mb of ram. This is only a visual glitch and the card should still work, however, if you cannot get the correct resolution, I think you may still have a QE & CI problem. If you launch DVD player or the OSX chess program, do they work OK?

@aqua
I ended up just formatting my entire OSX partition to start fresh. Currently i have not updated the OS from 10.5 to 10.8 (via software update within the OS).
Just to clarify, i only have need one install of leopard to get this functional (since i re-formatted)?
I originally followed your tutorial step by step, and didn't run into any issues until reboot. Can you think of any reason why this wouldn't be working on my laptop?
Thanks again!
-Ben

I presume it is a QE & CL problem. As far as the memory goes I can put into the vram for just 1024 but I need to get my resolution running. When I installed if I selected NVenabler I got an error NVenabler:: probe failed and it would not boot . I had to boot into -s mode and delete from System/library/extensions all files NV* then it booted but with poor resolution. I also tried NVinject same problem. Do I even need these in snow leopard or ATY_Init.kext. I also added the string to the com.apple.Boot.plist in /extra to see if that would work but no such luck. Thanks for the response. The chess program opens but it looks squashed because of the 1024x728. DVD Player I have independent issue A valid dvd device could not be found even though it seems to work. I will worry about that later. Any other ideas?

If you are doing a snow install, I only use GFX strings + you need to leave all the standard NV files that will be automatically installed as part of snow. If you do not already have GFX strings worked out, the 200 series can be a bit of a pain as it will just black screen after the grey apple screen. It is easier to install something like a 8800 GT or 7 series card. If you have one of these, it will at least display a low res picture and will help you fix up your strings. This will allow you to obtain your PCI address for your card and when you have it working, you can generally just transfer the 200 series into position.
Ben,
I suspect that your problem is the NVCAP value that being a laptop is non-standard. I am not really familiar with your laptop, do you know off hand if anyone else has had luck with OSX 86 on your particular laptop. Whereabouts are you based?
