Hi,
I have put an in.plist up on page 1 of this thread for you for a 8800 GT 256 mb to make things a little easier.

Wasn't able to get this to work, am running a retail 10.6 install with a 8800GT 512MB card. Wanted to try this method over the nvinject, natit etc.. I've tried multiple times to get this going but it seems to just ignore my string i add. Any suggestions? Thanks

Hi Lylem,
You need to give me some information to work with. Can you start with pasting your graphics info info from System profiler.

I went ahead and used natit to get things going, however is there any "performance" benefit over this method rather than natit? Heres my info now after natit being used. Only thing that changed i think was the it went from 32MB ram to 512MB
NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT:
Chipset Model: NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT Type: GPU Bus: PCIe PCIe Lane Width: x16 VRAM (Total): 512 MB Vendor: NVIDIA (0x10de) Device ID: 0x0611 Revision ID: 0x00a2 ROM Revision: 0x00

The main benefit of strings is that there is one less kext in your kext folder and there is slightly less chance of problems when you update OS X. It was the whole of system profiler that I was looking for really (see below for mine)
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 285 DDL:
Chipset Model: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 285 DDL Type: GPU Bus: PCIe Slot: Slot-1 PCIe Lane Width: x16 VRAM (Total): 1024 MB Vendor: NVIDIA (0x10de) Device ID: 0x05e3 Revision ID: 0x00a1 ROM Revision: 3172a
Displays: Apple Studio Display: Resolution: 1280 x 1024 Pixel Depth: 32-Bit Color (ARGB8888) Main Display: Yes Mirror: Off Online: Yes Rotation: Supported Display Connector: Status: No Display Connected
The one above is for Snow Leopard, but Leopard will actually tell you if QE/CI are enabled. It would be necessary to show what you were getting with strings though if you wanted help and that would involve deleting Natit. If your strings were ignored then you must have missed something. If you are using the latest version of Chameleon, then the com.apple.boot.plist needs to go in your Extra folder.

Ok i removed natit, rebooted added my string i got with efi studio. Below i will paste with out natit but before string and then with string.
with out natit before string:
Display:
Type: GPU Bus: PCIe PCIe Lane Width: x16 VRAM (Total): 32 MB Vendor: NVIDIA (0x10de) Device ID: 0x0611 Revision ID: 0x00a2 Displays: Display: Resolution: 1024 x 768 Pixel Depth: 32-Bit Color (ARGB8888) Main Display: Yes Mirror: Off Online: Yes
With string:
Display:
Type: GPU Bus: PCIe PCIe Lane Width: x16 VRAM (Total): 32 MB Vendor: NVIDIA (0x10de) Device ID: 0x0611 Revision ID: 0x00a2 Displays: Display: Resolution: 1024 x 768 Pixel Depth: 32-Bit Color (ARGB8888) Main Display: Yes Mirror: Off Online: Yes

lylem,
Have you tried adding your string manually as at the beginning of this thread and NOT efi studio? The info above shows your string is indeed not working. If you are trying to make your string in Snow Leopard as has been mentioned many times - it will not work. You have to make your out.plist in Leopard ONLY until GFX strings are re-written for Snow Leopard. You can get all the PCI address stuff done in Snow but the output file must be made in Leo only, as Snow gives the wrong info and QE/CI will not work. If you follow that advice I am sure you will get strings to work.

Actually i missed that part in the tutorial my bad, so i preceded to boot my old leopard install and go through it and i copied the string to my snow install and i still get the same results. Maybe i will have to wait awhile until some bugs get worked out. Thanks for the help though.

Hello all. thank you all for your info. i tried 2 different metods and failed then i tried the more simple thing. In iatkos v7 i checked the nvdidia vga-dvi drivers and violá. I´m really happy. Everything works.
i7 ex58 9800gt 1024mb ( it recognizes it all) virus ti
Maybe if i used 3d applications i´m sure i would run into trouble, but for music production it´s wonderfull.
Thank you all......

Hi if you take a look at the instructions, once you find your PCIe address you have to make the out.hex part in Leopard as the GFX program is not working in snow leopard yet and you will just stall at the blue screen.

hi i write down the intire procedure i've done so you can tell me where i'm wrong...... 1) ./gfxutil -f display (on the sl machine) and i get an PCI root little bit different form the one in the file your file : PciRoot(0x1)/Pci(0xe,0x0)/Pci(0x0,0x0) sl machine : PciRoot(0x1)/Pci(0x1,0x0)/Pci(0x0,0x0) 2) on a original leo i get the out .hex 3) modify com.apple.boot.plist on the SL machine 4) install your nvidia 9000 driver 5) reboot but at the end i'm still with 1024x768 so this is the com.apple.Boot <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple Computer//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd"> <plist version="1.0"> <dict> <key>Kernel</key> <string>mach_kernel</string> <key>Kernel Flags</key> <string></string> <key>device-properties</key> <string>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</string> <key>Graphics Mode</key> <string>1680x1050x32</string> </dict> </plist> --------------------- and this is how the card is recognized........
