Well, i'm glad you sound optimistic I'm going to try Ritalin's method. I only have the dvd of the leopard server - i hope that works too. I'll let you know what the results of my attempt are...

Hi Aquamac, I just picked up a 9600gso with 384mb of DDR3, does any of the premade templates from your OP work for that card? If not, could you help me get this card working? I'm on Kalyway Leopard 10.5.2 updated to 10.5.5 C2D E2200 @2.9 2gb DDR2 ECS 945GCT-M/1333 Thanks

Just swapped out a 6600GT and 7600GT for a new 9800GT MSI OC edition... Vanilla Leopard install 10.5 with 10.5.5 combo update and replaced Kexts, charmeleon and EFIstudio Removed 6600 installed 9880GT F8 to use boot -x (safemode option) EFistudio to install 8800GT efi strings, lan and audio strings Reboot.. Boot to OSX.. can't change res without blue screen... Change monitor from top DVI to bottom DVi port (with VGA adaptor).. all works... ?Don't know why I have to use the bottom DVI with the 8800GT whereas the top port on all the other cards I have tried.. Detecsts then as a 8800GT in software... I used these instructions forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=861674.3 with chameloen and EFI sutdio, vanilla.. and an original 10.5.0 leopard, (E)P35-DS3P v2.1 just remember to F8 boot to use the -x (safe mode) option for the first time to install EFI studio.. Hi Aquamac, I'm very impressed with your dedication to us newbies and our G92 owes Perhaps you can help me too. I have a club3d 9800GT (not GTX) with 512MB. I installed a new system from the JaS 10.5.4 image. The problem is (i think i saw a capture you posted with the same problem) that all the menus show up as white with no text, probably due to a failure in rendering the transparency. Also, if i try to change the resolution of the screen, i get a blue screen (not of death... just a blue background) and that's it. I went ahead and downloaded the files for 512 from this thread, pasted my id, created the hex and added it to the plist. I also made sure that nvkush was not in my extensions folder. After reboot, in the profiler the card model is the one i entered in the plist but the problem persists. Also, note that CI/QE are working perfectly - just this weird problems with the all-white menus and the resolution change hangup. It would be great if you could help in any way! Thanks

I have the same issue as blanktruth, that with iatkos 10.5.2 gfx string is working and with 10.5.4 updated to 10.5.5 resolution is working, but no quartz extreme support. The workaround i found is to use nvkush, but the card 8800gtx flashed to fx5600 does not get reported correctly. Only shows 256mb of ram, when i start messing with info.plist files inside nvkush, to fix the ram amount the screen gets messed up. I have full quartz support and all the programs seem to recognize the card correctly. I also tried to use the nvidia kext from 10.5.2 but the screen gets messed up with gfx string. Also tried using the ones aquamac posted here i get same result as with my original 10.5.5 kext - correct resolution, but no quartz. I wonder what is nvkush doing different than gfx strings. Also when i try to create a new gfx string in 10.5.5 it comes out bit different than in 10.5.2. And same problem - correct resolution but no quartz extreme.

Sorry if this has been covered, but will this method work with the 9800GTX+? Im a little worried that the "+" means "wont work with hackintosh" thanks!

hrm ok.....
I went and bought a 9800GTX+ card and managed to shoehorn it into the case.
Im using leo4allv3, patched.
I followed the instructions, and I do get 1680x1050x32, but no QE and software CI. I tried the kexts you provided aquamac but I just got some errors (kext not installed properly) and nothing changed. Im guessing I should be on 10.5.4 first?
Perhaps Im using the wrong distro? Id really want to get to at least 10.5.4 (I think leo4all is 10.5.2) with working CI/QE. Any suggestions?
thanks and regards.

You need to repair your kext permissions then you won't get that message. If you are getting that message then the kexts are not working and therefore you will not get QE or CI. Download this script to repair your kext permissions: homepage.mac.com/steve.smedley/.Public/permissions.command.zipDouble click it and leave to work till fully finished. Ignore the spurious warning and wait for it to finish - takes about 3-4 mins.

That should work fine, though I thought that version had Kext helper with it? If you need it, just let me know, be happy to upload it, though I use it after getting lazy

ahhh yes, that worked - I indeed forgot -R The only thing that still doesnt work is the spinning Apple logo at boot (I get pages of text). Its a small thing, but if anyone can think of why Id appreciate it. This PC now fairly flies, and has XP, OSX and Ubuntu Intrepid yayness plural!

I just found out that with nvkush, the monitor profiles do not work and I cannot calibrate so I need to desperately figure out how to make gfx stings work with iatkos 4. iatkos has this far been the only distro that works for me since i have Badaxe2 motherboard, which has trouble with efi installation due to different boot process than other MB's

Which files are you looking for. Is it a 256 or 512 mb card?

Hello aquamac, I have a Toshiba Satellite X200 and I'm struggling with the configuration of the GFX card which is a nVidia 8600M GT. My Leopard is 10.5.4. I have tried with all the injectors I've found without any good result. Now I would like to try with GFX string. I would like to know what files of a standard installation it has to be deleted (if any) before to proceed. I mean NVDAResman.kext or NVDANVxxHal.kext and so on. Do you have any other suggestion? Thanks in advance.

Hi Whityini,
Leave in all the standard Apple kexts. You must have NVDAResman and all other kexts left in. The only kexts you definitely don't want are NVInject or Natit kexts which must be deleted. Good Luck.
