My 3 Ghz Dual Quad Xeon Mac Pro arrived yesterday (here in Japan) from Apple Osaka. I went for 1 gig of RAM and the ATI X1900XT. Compared to my G5 it is virtually silent. I noticed early on that Apple seems to have set all the fan speeds too low and rather than download the Apple SMC firmware I opted for the free app; smcFanControl which simply works wonderfully. The Northbridge Heatsink was running from 82°C ~ 92°C which I thought way too hot, smcFanControl fixed every thermal reading and I still cannot hear this wonderful computer. I ordered 4 gig of Apple Certified RAM (2 X 2 gig) from OWC who managed to get it to me from the USA to Japan in 3 days! My total is now 5 gig with the 2 gig modules in the upper riser. I installed two extra 400 & 250 gig respectively, Barracuda SATA II drives after removing the 1.5 gig limit jumpers. They should have included a seatbelt with this beast I haven't put the X1900XT through a workout yet, I have a new Accelero X2 and an accompanying rear-extracting fan that sits in a PCI slot to go with it if I encounter any graphics issues. Despite the cost, I feel this Mac Pro is worth every penny. Now I'm off to scrounge up some rice for the family

That's a spec to evoke some envy!
It should serve you well for a long time to come.

hey micx, congratulations on your new Mac Pro. In case you need to buy cheap parts this is the best store in Japan www.primepc.jp/goods_pc/goods_pc.php . I just ordered 3X 500 GB Samsung SATA drives and 1 320 GB Hitachi for my MacPro. Are you staying in Osaka? Near Yodobashi?

Are you staying in Osaka? Near Yodobashi? I live in East Kyoto. Kenji have you downloaded smcFanControl ? It is free and great. You can download it here : homepage.mac.com/holtmann/eidac/software/smcfancontrol2/index.htmlMy Northbridge heatsink was running at 80°C ~ 92°C until I installed and set this up. Now it is sitting at 58°C as I am typing. Apple set the minimum fan speeds too low. MIKX
