Hey guys, I'm new in this forum and sorry for my bad english I'm from Germany. I have a big problem with my Graphics Card. I bouhgt a Gainward 7800 GS 512MB and flashed it with the 7800GS file from Strangedogs Wiki. No neither my G4 Quicksilver, nor my PC recognizes the Card. What can I do? ?? Please help!! P.S. I successfully flashed a Radeon 9800 pro for my MAC

That is because the roms that are available for download at the wiki are only for 256 mb DVI/VGA cards, not the Gainward. However I do have the rom for the Gainward card. If you send me an email from the main site I can email the correct rom. However, 2 things, 1. your card must be a G70 based card to work (G71 WILL NOT WORK - LOOK ON THE BACK) and 2. The rom chip may now need changing. You will soon find out when you try to flash the card blind. Your PC may not boot, if the floppy indicator lights up then you can flash blind. Instructions on flashing blind are on the Hackintosh rom downloads page of my website.

Did your card take the flash? Were you able to flash the rom onto the card? Have you been able to flash a PC rom back onto the card? Please let me know. If it is a 7800GS+ there is no way, as those cards use the 7900GT chip and there was never a Apple 7900GT card offered. The layout of the rom structure changed significantly between 7800 & 7900. Gainward confused the issue by calling both cards 7800GS as Nvidia would not let them offer a 7900 AGP so they stuck with 7800GS name but added the + to show the difference. Just to really confuse, I have had a couple of cards that are marked as + that I had been able to flash as when I removed the heatsink and examined the chip, they were in fact only 7800 GT chips. This is why I ask, did your card take the flash?
If your card will no longer boot in a PC, you may have trashed the rom chip and it may need changing.
Your alternative is to get hold of a Gainward 7800GS.
AGP cards are becoming increasingly difficult to source that work on the G4's if you want top of the range. I have a Fire GL X3 for sale working as a X850XT. But although it works fine in MDD & G5, a number of Quicksilvers won't recognize the card. I also have a 6800GT that is currently in a Quicksilver if you are interested. Other than that there is BFG 7800GS 256. Also getting harder to find.

I think the card took the flash. But when I put the card into my Quicksilver, then the display still stays black. The Gainward 7800GS you flashed looks completely different to mine. I'm trying to find the same card!! Now I'm going to remove the heatsink and also take a look on the chip. I'll send you a mail with some pics of the chip!! Perhaps I made something wrong while flashing. I used the tutorial on mac-elite wiki for nvidia cards. Just forgot to say that I was able to flash the card back for my PC!

So...I removed the heatsink and the chip says G71!! I'll bring the card back to the shop where I bought it and look for the gainward youu own, because I want Dual-DVI.

Now I bought a Club3D 7800GS, because the homepage says it has an G70 chipset. I flashed it with the Mac-Elite romfile but my studio display stays black. Nothing happens!!! Whats wrong???

Do you have a picture of the card. Have you removed the heat sink to check it is actually a G70? Personally, I have never used the reduced rom, I always replace the rom chip with a 128 kb one and flash a full rom. However it should work. I still suspect you may be looking at a G71 chip and having some really bad luck.
