aquamac.... great site....always check out ur latest mods...(saves me tons of dosh not having to do anything)
i dont wanna bring down the apple thought police on you...but, have u tried running (ur totally legally bought and paid for...so whats their problem anyway?) OSX(86) 10.4.5 on ur winmac?.... not that i've got any intention of building a dual bootable pc in a quicksilver case or anything or have u been following developements elsewhere.... i try but most threads i've found are somewhat confused/confusing, with few of the questions raised answered.

Hi koyaanisqatsi,
This thought has occured to me many times , running a mac operating system on a PC that's installed in a mac case, something strangly appealling about that. In fact, hopefully there is a disk on it's way to me as we speak. I have followed events on the OS X86 site with great interest as you have yourself. If I can get this to work at some stage I will let you know. It will be an interesting project for the future and although I have a few years of PC building under my belt (probably in the region of 150) installing Linux etc this will bring a load of interesting new problems. I thought the problem of installing on Winmac would be the Athlon processor but there are indications that this may not be the case, we shall see, as I say, I will be bit of a newbie here. If you find out or know of any other info regarding the Athlon situation let me know. I'm told the processor needs SSE2 & possibly SSE3 extensions to install?
By the way, I've also posted in the items for sale area as a reply to your other post if you come here first.

I have tried the x86 on pc, but in my own dealings with it, i will say this. don't use anything with the ULI chipsets. completely unsupported. for me it ran slow so i switched to an actual mac. from what i have read and from what i have heard, you do need a processor with SSE3 steppings. there is for download so you can run X on a SSE2 processor. not recommended but people have had it run with some stability.

Well, when i had it running on the board i had, that was a Radeon Xpress 200, which is almost like the X300 but slower. According to the guys at OSx86, i'm pretty sure they had it running with the vids that normal laptops and towers have. As for anything extravagant, that is a mystery to me. I'll do some research on it now...
If you have a video card that is a 830M/845G/852GM/855GM/865G Integrated Intel Media Accelerator, and you can't access different resolutions, you might find some help in this forum (http://forum.osx86project.org/index.php?showtopic=757)

10.4.4 Hardware Compatibility Lists We've now got Hardware Compatibility Lists (HCLs) available for OS X 10.4.4 on the wiki. These are lists where users let us know what hardware works and what doesn't (and also make a handy buying guide when you're looking at building a new box). They’re just like the old ones with one exception – we can finally list third-party hardware that doesn’t work with the new Macintels so many of us are getting. Such information is handy to everyone, so feel free to fill us in if you can’t get something working with your new Apple.
Hardware Components (http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.php/HCL_10.4.4) Portable Computers (http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.php/HCL_10.4.4/Portables) Desktop Computers (http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.php/HCL_10.4.4/Desktops) Incompatible Hardware (http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.php/Incompatible_hardware_10.4.4)

JJ,
Did you say you had intel SSE3 on your OS X86. Is the lack of this on Athlon 64 (SSE2 only) that slows things down, 8mins to boot!

Must recheck the exact model, but it is an Athlon 64 3200+ 754 socket.
